There is the Group Policy Operational log on 2008 systems and the screen shot below is from that. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749336(v=ws.10).aspx You can also use system logs. If you are used to the old userenv logs you can also enable the gpsvc log in 2008 http://blogs.technet.com/b/mempson/archive/2010/01/10/userenvlog-for-windows-vista-2008-win7.aspx Thanks Mikehttp://adisfun.blogspot.com Follow @mekline Proposed as answer by VenkatSP Saturday, February 16, 2013 4:39 AM Marked as answer by Cicely FengModerator Monday, February 18, 2013 1:12 AM Thursday, January 31, 2013 5:33 PM Reply | https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/8419575f-2b76-4a37-8f3c-608410912980/which-event-viewer-log-is-specific-to-gpo-events-and-where-is-this-log-located-within-event-viewer?forum=winserverDS Quote 1 Sign in to vote Below is event range for GPO Event ID Range Description 4000–4007 Group Policy start events: These informational events appear in the event log when an instance of Group Policy processing begins. 4016–4299 Component start events: These informational events appear in the event log when a component of Group Policy processing begins the task described in the event. 5000–5299 Component success events: These informational events appear in the event log when a component of Group Policy processing successfully completes the task described in the event. 5300–5999 Informative events: These informational events appear in the event log during the entire instance of Group Policy processing and provide additional information about the current instance. 6000–6007 Group Policy warning events: These warning events appear in the event log when an instance of Group Policy processing completes with errors. 6017–6299 Component warning events: These warning events appear in the event log when a component of Group Policy processing completes the task described in the event with errors. 6300–6999 Informative warning events: These warning events appear in the event log to provide additional information about po

This guide outlines basic steps used to troubleshoot Group Policy application errors using the Group Policy Service Debug logs (gpsvc.log). A basic understanding of the logging discussed here will save time and may prevent you from having to open a support ticket with Microsoft. Let's get started. The gpsvc log has evolved from the User Environment Debug Logs (userenv log) in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 but the basics are still there and the pattern is the same. There are also changes from 2008 to 2012 in the logging itself but they are minor and will not prevent you from understanding your first steps in analyzing the debug logs. Overview of Group Policy Client Service (GPSVC) One of the major changes that came with Windows Vista and later operating systems is the new Group Policy Client service. Earlier operating systems used the WinLogon service to apply Group Policy. However, the new Group Policy Client service improves the overall stability of the Group Policy infrastructure and t

I created a MSI thats hosted in a network share: \\server\Deployment\xxx\xxx.msi when i log on to a computer and start it manually, it installs perfectly in silence and is listed uninstallable via systemcontrol/software. However, if i deploy it by GPO, it wont work. eventvwr.msc reveals error codes 101, 103, 108 and 1085 without any useful further information (roughly translated in english it is something like: "it did not work because it did not work.." :@). Client is set to wait on network, GPO is listed as applied on gpresult, when i log onto the server and check the ntfs-settings, the MSI has read and execute for domain-computers, auth-users, everyone, anonymous and full for system and admins. The share settings are read for everyone. There are no further events related to that failure. Does someone please can suggest some fixes? How can i find out WHY it does not get installed? TIA, rhavin. group-policy windows-installer deployment share|improve this question asked Nov 1 '14 at 20:29 rhavin 1467 Event ID 108 should provide "Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. %1 The error was : %%%2". What are the actual messages these Events are providing you? –Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Nov 1 '14 at 20:36 Never understood why MS localized error -.-, i'll try to translate in english: 101: the assignment of application (app) of gpo (gpo) failed. error: critical error at installation. 103: remove of assignment of application (app) of gpo (gpo) failed. error: critical error at installation. 108: Changes in softwaresettings not applied. Unable to adopt changes of software. Preceeding log entry should be there. –rhavin Nov 2 '14 at 8:09 Thanks for the error translation. :) –Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Nov 2 '14 at 17:40 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote These errors tell me that
