Rsop Invalid Namespace Windows 7
Last Modified: 2013-01-14 I have a Windows 2008R2 domain with several hundred computers and users. I have had some problems with certain users that I originally thought was a problem with the computer network adapter. They are not getting group policy assignments and when I run GPRESULT, I get the message; ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ INFO: The user "Domain Name\User Name" does not have RSOP data. If I try event id 1110 error code 1717 to run RSOP.msc while logged in as this user, I get the following; Group Policy Error RSoP data is invalid. Likely causes are, data is corrupt, data has been deleted or data has never been created. Details: Invalid namespace ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can log in as my user account, which has domain admin rights, and GPRESULT and RSoP.msc both work. If I log in to another computer using the problem user name, I get the same errors as listed above when I run GPRESULT and RSoP.msc This was not always the case with the user; it all used to work correctly. Obviously, the issue is with the user account in the domain but I am not sure where to start. I don't want to just delete and recreate the user unless that is the last result. Any ideas? Upon setting up this domain a simple error was group policy made in the DNS settings. We forgot the subdomain. testdomain.com rather than site1.testdomain.com. We found a way to change a majority of the references, but Group Policy objects are not being applied correctly. When running RSOP.msc. we get an error: RSoP data is invalid Invalid namespace Did a bit of digging and it seems when we create a group policy, and click edit, the name does not reflect the servers FQDN. dc01.testdomain.com rather than dc01.site1.testdomain.com. How can we change this name space? unable to generate or will we be forced to reset and re-run dcpromo.exe and ensure correct settings this time? active-directory group-policy share|improve this question asked Jun 1 '15 at 6:25 Jack 9529 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote I have found my problem. We renamed our domain using rendom.exe, which changed settings in the forest. And then removed to testdomain.com zone in the DNS settings. However! We failed to change the domain on the domain controllers DNS suffix through the system properties (System Properties > Advanced System Settings > Computer Name > "To rename this computer..." > "More..." > Change DNS there) It's funny, here, how you seem to find the answer to your question right after you ask it. share|improve this answer answered Jun 1 '15 at 6:47 Jack 9529 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. This is a little long please stay with me. we have a single domain running off of a win server 2003 dc, We have remote sites connecting over VPN, the VPN servers are draytek vigour routers, the VPN type is ipsec tunnel. all site computers are part of a workgroup (not the domain) and All site users were connecting to a terminal server at head office through the VPN's. I decided to connect one site up to the domain instead of using terminal services. This meant that the site was going across the wire for DNS resolution and domain logon. This wasn't a problem (very few workers at the site) and it all worked well i.e. logons work fine name resoution was fast etc. Until i realised group policy wasn't being applied to the remote computers. I ran the RSOP.msc tool on a remote system it said that RSOP data is unavailable possible reasons include 'The policy object does not exist”. “RSoP data invalid. Likely causes are, data is corrupt, data has been deleted or data has never been created.' I've checked remote systems can contact the dc no problem, resolve internal and external names no problem, nslookup can resolve srv records no problem and systems can connect to the sysvol folder. Computer accounts are being created in AD as well. The vpn servers arn't under heavy load or anything. one weird thing is that on occation when i run nslookup on a remote system sometimes this gets forwarded to the prisoner.iana server (which to my knowledge catches name resolution leaks for private subnets). the Routing tables are fine though. the main office subnet is 192.168.0.0/24 the remote office subnet is 192.168.15.0/24 typical remote system tcp/ip config is I.P - 192.168.15.5 netmask - 255.255.255.0 gateway - 192.168.15.254 (vpn server as well) dns server
