Join Now hi i have a windows 2003 domain with 2003 R2 and 2008 R2 domain controllers - i use group policy preferences and manage from the 2008 R2 server but I noticed that the settings for windows update were not applying to all machines in the same OU (all PCs are XP with the policy preferences installed) when i run gp modelling against the DCs, my 2008 R2 are fine - but i get error ID 8196 when I run against any of my 2003 R2 DCs I am moving to a 2008 domain but it is a number of months away as https://community.spiceworks.com/windows_event/show/7785-group-policy-registry-8196 the sites are geographically spread but i really need all machines to pick up the correct policy settings meantime. i have run replmon and there are no replication failures on the domain - and I have 2 DNS servers which have no errors either. only affects clients which are authenticating against the 2003 DCs and not all of them either! any help most appreciated alison Reply Subscribe RELATED TOPICS: Group Policy Issues - Event ID 1058 Errors Group policy https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/300334-group-policy-registry-event-id-8196-from-w2k3-dc-but-not-w2k8-dc Event ID 1090 and 1065 errors Event ID 1058 Group Policy Issues   This discussion has been inactive for over a year. Group Policy failing at random group policy registry with event ID 111, 1085, and 8196 Started by Ryan Wuellner , 21 November 2012 - 07:01 PM Login to Reply 1 reply to this topic Ryan Wuellner Members #1 Ryan Wuellner 3 posts Posted 21 November 2012 - 07:01 PM All—I recently deployed a new batch of Citrix servers in our farm. Since the deployment our users have been experiencing intermittent group policy failures. Here are the specs for the farm:- Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 HF3- Windows Server 2003 R2- Flex profiles using Flex Framework with mandatory TS profileHere are the errors from the Application Event log:Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Folder RedirectionEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 111Date: 11/21/2012Time: 12:30:34 PMUser: BHS\
problems with applying group policy settings. Following events were logged in Application event log from Source Userenv and Event ID 1085: The Group Policy client-side extension Group Policy Local Users and Groups failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension. Earlier events related withapplying group policy client side extensionfrom SourceGroup Policy Local Users and Groups and Event ID 8194 were: The client-side extension could not remove computer policy settings for 'GPO name and ID' because it failed with error code '0x8007000d The data is invalid.' See trace file for more details. Easiest way to fix this behavior is to delete client's group policy cache. Because the client is XP, delete all folders from %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Group Policy\History and run gpupdate /force to refresh policy settings. Error events from Application logregarding event ids 1085 & 8194 should be solved.
