everyone, I need some help trying to solve an issue with Group Policy on our network. This doesn't seem to be causing major problems as the vast majority of our GPO's are definitely working, I just have that niggling feeling that a few things are not working perfectly. When I do a gpupdate /force on a client PC, I get the following group policy infrastructure failed message: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\Users\greenm>gpupdate /force Updating Policy... User Policy update has completed successfully. The following warnings were encountered during user policy processing: The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply on e or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup o r user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish complet ely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance. Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were enc ountered: The processing of Group Policy failed because of an internal system error. Pleas e see the Group Policy operational log for the specific error message. An attemp t will be made to process Group Policy again at the next refresh cycle. RSOP and GPResult show stale data up vote 4 down vote favorite 1 This issue exists on a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine (Dell Inspiron E6420). I am trying to adjust a setting using gpedit.msc, but the change never seems to take effect. By that, I mean the setting that is changed never shows up http://serverfault.com/questions/516426/local-group-policy-not-updating-rsop-and-gpresult-show-stale-data in rsop or gpresult. The exact setting is called Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings which is currently reported as Enabled in RSOP/gpresult. Even if I set this to not configured or disabled using gpedit.msc, the change never shows in a gpresult query. Not even after a gpupdate or reboot. However it will show the updated setting in gpedit (not that it makes a difference at that point if it can't apply). Error messages A few points of concern: This error happens when running gpupdate: Updating Policy... User Policy update has completed successfully. Computer Policy update has completed successfully. The following warnings were encountered during computer policy processing: Windows failed to apply the Scripts settings. Scripts settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link. For more detailed information, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html from the command line to access information about Group Policy results. When running an RSOP or GPresult, there is a yellow exclamation point on the Computer Configuration section. Under Component Status, these two errors are showing, but I haven't been able to figure out a way to clear them: Component Status Componen
I cant figure this one out so far.. I have a vista x64 machine which seems to be getting an old WSUS server address (which at one point was in http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/old-wsus-server-parameters-reappearing-on-workstation-rsop-error.747122/ our GPO, but isnt now)... IE: if i go into the LM computer section of the registry and remove the entries.. then run gpupdate /force .. it pops the two entries back in place, not the new server name and port (other machines are fine).. Also.. if i do an rsop.msc from this machine.. i can see that the GPO policy for auto updates is being applied.. however, group policy there is an error.. on the error information tab i have under component name: Registry and status failed.. error is "registry failed due to error listed below. Unspecified error" I do have an exclaimation mark through the "computer configuration" portion of rsop I also have errors under the source of "GroupPolicy" and eventid 1125 in the system log: "The processing of Group Policy failed because of an internal registry failed due system error. Please see the Group Policy operational log for the specific error message. An attempt will be made to process Group Policy again at the next refresh cycle." I'm not sure what else to check or do here.. Any thoughts? markm75, Mar 12, 2008 #1 Advertisements Harry Johnston [MVP] Guest Re: Old WSUS server parameters reappearing on workstation.. rsoperror markm75 wrote: > I have a vista x64 machine which seems to be getting an old WSUS server > address (which at one point was in our GPO, but isnt now)... > > IE: if i go into the LM computer section of the registry and remove the > entries.. then run gpupdate /force .. it pops the two entries back in place, > not the new server name and port (other machines are fine).. > > Also.. if i do an rsop.msc from this machine.. i can see that the GPO policy > for auto updates is being applied.. however, there is an error.. on the error > information tab i have under component name: Registry and status failed.. > error is "registry failed due to error listed below.
