It was working fine until recently....when we had to reboot it due to a power outage. Now when it loads.....it states.... GRUB loading Stage 1.5 GRUB loading...please wait.....then Error 24. I'm able to Boot Installed System with the CD.........and tried repairing the Boot Loader.....and can't. Any ideas...suggestion? I've searched various forums on the net....and none of the suggestions seem to help. I tried creating a new boot loader and still get the same error on reboot. Tried to re-install grub with no success. 08-25-2009 #2 oz View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Articles forum.guy Join Date May 2004 Location arch linux Posts 18,732 Welcome to the forums! Next message: Red Hat Linux 8 Dell Poweredge 2450 Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] You get error 24 when using the find command? On redhat you wouldn't use /boot in the path, and I didn't think you needed the (hd0,1). Ie. Grub> kernel /vmlinuz-xxx root=/dev/sda2 Grub> initrd /initrd-xxx.img Grub> boot I guess you only need to set root if you're re-installing. ________________________________ From: George Gatling [mailto:ggatling at gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, February 09, 2006 10:47 AM To: Jason Wozniak; linux-poweredge at dell.com Subject: Re: PE2800, SuSE 9,grub says: Error 24: Attempt to access block outside partition You're particular error however could indicate a corrupt file system, and I don't have the above problem http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-linux/151999-solved-grub-error-24-a.html on my PE2850. In which case you could try using tar to backup the partition with a rescue cd, create a new file system, and restore your files from the backup. First I would use the grub find command to see if it can actually see the kernel image you're trying to boot, and where grub thinks it is. I'm not familiar with Suse. On redhat I have a /boot partition, so at the grub prompt I would say I am http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2006-February/024521.html creating the backup right now onto an external usb drive... As far as corrupt file systems go... that's about all the manual has to say about error 24, but it suprises me that I would be able mount and read everything on the partition if it was a corrupt file system. On my suse system I only have 2 partitions, swap and / The / partition is quite large ( 1.9TB) but (fortunately) mostly empty at the moment. When I installed Suse I just went with the defaults where possible, and this is what if produced. The kernel I am trying to boot is /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.5-7.244-smp on /dev/sda2 (aka hd0,1) When I get dumped at grub> during the boot I cannot see anything on (hd0,1)... I just get error24. Grub> find /initrd-2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp.img Omitting /boot in the path, on your system it may be an absolute path, and I don't even know if suse uses an initrd? I don't know either, but I have a file called /boot/initrd-2.6.5-7.244-smp, so I would assume that it does. Also I assume you're setting your root device to your boot partition first before using the kernel command? You can use rootnoverify if your OS is outside the area of the disk that grub can read. The commands I would like to type at grub> are: kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 boot (I was under the impression the grub root command was optional as long as you wer
