Error 25 GRUB stage 1.5 Hello everyone. A few days ago I decided to ditch Windows for good. I read for hours about a Linux distro and settled on OpenSUSE. I just need to say one thing. Linux is not for the feint of heart, and everywhere I turn (forums), I see computers riddled with error messages, frustrated people, and the list goes on. I'm willing to work through this though since I feel that the benefits will outweigh anything that Microsoft can offer, so here goes. Upon installing the new build of OpenSUSE, I encountered an error message that was fixed by hitting retry (I forgot the name, but I remember it being something like Etk3 or something of the sort). My issue now is not being able to boot into the OS. I'm getting Error 25 from GRUB on stage 1.5 Thank you for reading, Michael Clarification: I've installed 11.1 over my Windows XP partition. I want XP no more. Additionally, I read the sticky and followed all the instructions. I also selected the KDE desktop (I still don't know the difference between that and GNOME despite Googling it several times). Last edited by arakavaz; 31-Jul-2009 at 00:26. The Ext3 file system of the partition /dev/sda2 is corrupted. To repair the file system, press repair." Repairing did not work since it said there was an "Error reading block 175 (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read). /dev/sda2: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY: RUN fsck MANUALLY. (i.e., without -a or -p options)" which I have no clue abou

Does this meant I will have to change my hard drive with a new one or will this be resolved by http://www.unix.com/linux/107482-grub-error-25-a.html formatting or wiping out hard drive contents and perform new installation? Any Recommendation will be appreicated. But try this.. Turn you rmachine off. Turn it back on with the install CD still in your cd-rom. Your are going to use the "rescue" mode to re-install GRUB. from menu, but OK from grub shell Date: Thu, 19 May https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=102836 2005 08:24:03 +0100 I've created a CD with grub on, & I get the menu OK, but grub error trying to actually boot gives me 'error 25: disk read error'. Hitting 'c' for the command line and typing the commands in the grub.conf verbatim (below: root, kernel & initrd) followed by 'boot' works grub error 25 though. Chaining to the hard-drive copy of the config file ('configfile (hd0,4)/grub/grub.conf') gets the menu OK again, but has exactly the problems. Why might there be a difference? default 0 prompt 1 splashimage (hd0,4)/grub/splash.xpm.gz timeout 4 title Linux root (hd0,4) kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 initrd /initrd.img -- [neil fnx ~]# rm -f .signature [neil fnx ~]# ls -l .signature ls: .signature: No such file or directory [neil fnx ~]# exit Follow-Ups: Re: grub: disk error 25 from menu, but OK from grub shell From: Jeroen Wunnink [Date Prev][Date Next] [Thread Prev][Thread Next] [Thread Index] [Date Index] [Author Index]
Posts: 12 Grub and disk issues Yesterday i was using my computer as i normally would, then it freezes, turn it off, turn it on... boom grub error 17(i have windows 7 and archlinux dualbooting for reference)so, i headed to the arch wiki,i got archboot running on a usbpen, it takes a life to boot, a lot of read errors from my harddrive ( i will post some of them later for reference )i enter the command line,i do just like the wiki says:i tryfdisk /dev/sda and the the extra fix writeit tells me there's nothing wrong with the disk order.then onto fix grub:root (hd0,1) -->(my linux root is on sda2)and it gives me Error 25: Disk read error, and this prevents me of going further ( i think )i'm pretty clueless how to solve this, i also tried Super Grub disk, didn't detect anything linux related, i almost can boot windows but hangs and reboots.I am already on the mindset that i lost everything i would appreciate any help. The best way is to install GRUB in the MBR and let it handle the booting of all OSes on your system. And don't start swapping around HDs in your BIOS, if you have multiple disks. The Arch wiki has very clear and concise instructions on how to (re)install GRUB from scratch if you need to. Got Leenucks? :: Arch: Power in simplicity :: Get Counted!
