As you guess windows nuked my mbr. Since then I installed lilo with my original debian boot cd, but lilo doesn't work for some reason, maybe because i run kernel 2.6.4 and didn't set up the good parameters because it has been done automaticly. Now i'm trying to re install grub but in all the documentations i read, the explanations are starting from the moment they have the grub prompt ">" and I don't have this prompt as my system now boot directly on

If I run xterm and run htop out of it, it works. htop isn't the only app that is complaining about the terminal right now though Example::: Starting full system upgrade... resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... I only want ubuntu on the computer, so I accepted all options, and re-partitioned the entire drive, and installed grub. Installation was very smoothe, no hitches. At the end when it kicked out the cd and then re-booted, I get the bios splash screen and then "GRUB hard disk error" - nothing else. So then I put the disk back in restarted in 'rescue' mode ran Code: sudo grub-install /dev/hda seemed to work, so then I typed in 'grub', I get 'error opening terminal: bterm'. So now I'm out of ideas. Here's the menu.lst Code: # menu.lst - See: grub(8), info grub, update-grub(8) # grub-install(8), grub-floppy(8), # grub-md5-crypt, /usr/share/doc/grub # and /usr/share/doc/grub-doc/. ## default num # Set the default entry to the entry number NUM.
