Grub Error 15
2 down vote favorite I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my computer. The install went fine but now I have the next error while booting: grub stage 1.5 - error 2 I'm posting from the live CD and I didn't find an useful answer in Google. 12.04 grub2 boot-failure share|improve this question edited Dec 1 '12 at 18:58 Lucio 8,3921761114 asked Dec 1 '12 at 18:31 Gabriel 113 1 Adding the output of the boot grub loading error 15 info script to your question would help, but stage1.5 is part of grub-legacy and 12.04 uses grub2, so you must have some other disk that has an old broken grub install on it that you are booting rather than the one you installed 12.04 on. –psusi Dec 1 '12 at 20:50 Thanks for your help ! I understand what you wrote, but I'm a newbie with Ubuntu. Where is this boot info script ? I didn't find it. Before installing Ubuntu I was running Kubuntu (don't remember the version). Maybe am I still lauching the old grub... But how to check it ? I tried "sudo grub" on my Live cd, but i get a "command not found"... –Gabriel Dec 1 '12 at 23:49 Google for boot info script and it should be the first thing that comes up. Do you have more than one hard drive? –psusi Dec 2 '12 at 1:24 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Boot from LiveCD and from a terminal run 'grub-install /dev/hda' command and then boot from the hard disk. The command will do a fresh install of grub on your hard disk and overwrite any previous versions of grub. Hopefully this will fix it. share|improve this answer answered Dec 4 '12 at 22:32 gdesilva 211

I am new at Ubuntu, I was https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1431097 a Suse user until now. I wanted to install kubuntu 9.10 this morning, there was no error message while installing it, but if I start up now I only get Grub Stage 1.5 Grub loading please wait Error 2 I found out so far that error 2 is an error with not detecting a disk, but I'm not sure how to solve that. I started the computer again with the live disk. Which information do you need to be able to help me? So far I was looking at the Grub version, its 1.97~beta4. If I try to look at sudo fdisk -l i get Unable to seek on /dev/sda Thanks for any help! The reason I ask is that the error message is from grub legacy, not grub 2 (which is version 1.97 ... yes, that is strange. Grub legacy was version 0.97). My guess is that there is a grub legacy boot loader in your hard disk MBR, and a stage 1.5 in the first track, which are "hard code

I have an application that runs in Linux and another application that runs in https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=58810 Windows and am developing an interface program in Linux to allow the Windows app to control the Linux https://www.haiku-os.org/community/forum/solved_grub_error_2_booting app. Suddenly, yesterday, it will not boot. When I start the VM I see the VirtualBox screen and when that disappears I have the following in a black screen: GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, please wait... Error 2 And there it hangs. I cannot get into Ubuntu. I don't know even why Grub is being used here, I didn't install it intentionally. I don't need multiple boot options within my grub error VM. I don't know how to get into the disk image to find out what may be wrong or to fix it. I read forums that talked about fixing grub files, but I can't even get to the disk image. Can you help me find a way to fix this. I need to be able to recover the contents of my disk image, it has several things installed and also the code I have been developing. (I do have a backup but it would take a while to reinstall grub loading error and get all the settings right.) Thanks for your help. cwjrda Posts: 4Joined: 7. It needs some bootstrap the 1.5 stage is needed to support the range of Linux files systems that could be used for the Host OS. To repair grub, you need to boot your VM from a LiveCD such as the Ubuntu distro and rerun grub-install. There are lots of articles on the internet on how to do this.
