I though the problem to be one of those dual boot/Vista problems... But after reading and making all those grub /boot/grub/menu.1st stuff I read...nothing helped... I took away the Vista disk... leaving only one HDD purely for linux... Again - failed! The problem might be, that since the smaller HDD is still with the old cable (the wide one) and the motherboard has only one slot for this cable, I had to connect it together with the DVD rom. Hi friends, I have a xeon machine with 3 hard disks and 512 mb of grub loading RAM. I have RHEL 7 installed in this machine. I installed RHEL AS 4 on it. I formatted all the partitions and created new ones as per need. The installation went successful but when i was asked to reboot the machine...it is hanging with the message "GRUB loading stage2.....".I did not create any boot partition as i was advised it is not mandatory... Why it is not proceeding forward.? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks in advance Reply With Quote 09-01-2007,05:25 AM grub loading stage #2 saikee View Profile View Forum Posts I'm totally not hacked. Join Date Jun 2004 Location Newcastle upon Tyne Posts 2,971 I sounds as though you have replaced RHEL 7 with RHEL AS 4 except the omission of Grub. I don't know where you get the idea from installing Grub not mandatory but the old Grub will have its stage1 (just 512 bytes) left in the MBR and cannot boot its stage2 which has since been formatted and the new one is possibly located at the hard disk but not exactly the same address. A su terminal and do: Code: fdisk -l That will show all your disks and partitions. Paste it here. Try and explain what you think you have done. eg; which partition is which, where you installed grub etc...?
