On my internal hard drive i have windows vista and ubunut 8.04 installed. And I usually had the Grub screen appear where I got to choose which OS to load. I found a lot of documentation over the internet for the problem but b/c of my lack of knowledge I keep getting lost. I'm very new to Ubuntu and would appreciate the help. Burn it onto a CD and then boot the PC with it, you should then be able to try and restore GRUB. Think carefully before executing commands containing "rm", especially "sudo rm -rf ", if you require more information concerning this matter, read this. I am an experimenter, give me the most stable OS and I can make it unstable in a few hours. C == seriously fast == FTW! Error 21 " Error 21 means : " 21 : Selected disk does not exist This error is returned if the device part of a device- or full file name refers to a disk or BIOS device that is not present or not recognized by the BIOS in the system. " My motherboard is a ABIT KR7A-RAID with a Highpoint hpt372 controller for RAID (This motherboard has two normal IDE and grub loading error two IDE for RAID). This error is returned when my HDD in plugged on a "RAID" IDE. (By the way, I don't use RAID, it's a single disk). Ubuntu installation works if I plug my HDD on a normal IDE. I encounter no problem when I install Fedora Core 2 with my HDD plugged on a "RAID" IDE (and with GRUB) (so I don't think it's a BIOS problem). It is a Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra motherboard also with a Highpoint 372 IDE raid controller. I also have only a single drive plugged into the controller and this is the first time I have seen an Error 21 from Grub. I have run various other distros including Fedora and Gentoo without issue. This is also the only hard drive in the system. I have tried several methods to fix and none of them have worked. I am at wits end. About my computer: I have a home-build Quad Core intel processer. My main os is Windows 7 ultimate. I have tried to install Ubuntu in the past, but it never showed up on the boot menu. I didn't mind until one morning my computer wouldn't get past the Grub 21 error. The prevailing solution is to boot into a live CD and type in several commands to repair the Grub file (or whatever) and that fixes the problem. First I tried using the Ubuntu Live CD (version 9 or 10) and it stops in the boot process and gave me the following error: "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" and then kicked me to the busybox console. Next, I tried downloading the latest version of knoppix. It gave me a "can't access tty, job control turned off error, no matter what boot commands I tried. (even failsafe mode failed) it again kicked me to the busybox console. Next tried an older 7.10 Ubuntu live cd. But it gave me a "Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0" several times before going to the busybox console. I assume it's looking for a floppy drive that isn't there (but I can't install one, as my harddrive has no floppy port, only IDE and a bunch of SATA ports) Lastly I downloaded and burned the SuperGrub disk, but that failed to boot for an unspecified reason. I do not have the original windows install disk to perform a repair on the MBR, I suppose that is my endgame, to find this disk. I have tried using old copies of the Windows 7 Beta to repair it, but they seem unresponsive and can't find any errors. I want one of the following Fix Grub Get into
