That should help you get back into windows. You won't be able to boot from grub rescue because you deleted the grub installation and all the modules etc that would be needed. –nikhil Nov 2 '12 at 17:05 Okay great, So i can download a copy of windows recovery and put it on the USB, and then procede with the normal process right? –user103968 Nov 2 '12 at 20:33 You don't need to download anything, you need to have the windows bootable disk. Flash that on the usb, boot from it and you're done. –nikhil Nov 4 '12 at 5:59 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Solution 1: Go to the edit mode and root (hd2,0) chainloader (hd2,0)+1 Change to the appropriate HDD Solution 2: Boot into linux and sudo grub-install This should scan and set an entry for each detected OS. I thought it would be as simple as deleting the partition it was stored on using Windows Disk Management, but I was wrong. http://askubuntu.com/questions/595834/fix-error-no-such-partition-grub-rescue-without-cd-drive Now whenever I try to boot I get "error: no such partition" and on the next line it says "grub rescue:" I've googled and looked everywhere but all solutions involve using the Windows installation disk, however, this Eee PC (netbook) doesn't have a CD drive, and that is therefore not an option. I have a USB with the Windows 7 installation iso "burned" to it, I just have no idea how to boot into it. If it isn't working, blank the disk off completely with sudo cat /dev/zero >/dev/sda from a Ubuntu USB; let it run for a few seconds, to overwrite the boot sectors, then quit with -c. Windows will then see an unpartitioned blank drive & should run. If not, it's likely to be a problem with your Windows USB - does it work e

Got rid of ubuntu by deleting the partition it was on and extended the Win 7 volume. All of this done in Disk Management. At the end Disk Management showed that space now part of C drive. I restarted to check that the grub bootloader was no longer running startups and I get the Windows 7 startup screen and then the message "Windows configuring... Do not shut down computer". After running approximately 3 minutes appears a black screen with the following: error: no such partition. grub rescue > blinking cursor. I restart and get the error message immediately. Now for the bad part! I purchased the computer (ASUS UL30-A) with Win 7 OEM and there is no install disk because the computer has no DVD/CD drive. To fix the MBR I need to access the recovery console, but have absolutely no way to get to the RC that I know of. If anyone has suggestions I would really appreciate it.
