Basic Troubleshooting Update Your Video Card Drivers The most common cause of this error is out of date or corrupted video card drivers. Please make sure your video card drivers are up to date. You may also consider reinstalling your video card drivers if the game previously worked correctly on the same hardware you are using now. Detailed instructions on the best method for updating or reinstalling video drivers can be found in the Updating Drivers Guide. Check Your Video Settings If you are using advanced features such as anti-aliasing, motion blur or HDR, try changing the setting recommended by the game engine to something lower in order to test the issue. For example, if you are currently using "Anisotropic Filtering 2x", try setting it to "Trilinear Filtering" and see if there is a difference in stability. All of these options can be found in the "advanced" section of your video settings in the game's menu. Check Your Firewall Settings If there are multiple instances of Steam.exe, HL2.exe or any other executable files related to Source games, these all need to be given permission in your firewall. To ensure that your firewall is correctly configured for Steam, please follow the Using a Firewall with Steam guide. Verify Your Game Cache Files Note: the following instructions will result in the deletion of your config and save game files. It is strongly recommended that you backup your game files before attempting these instructions. The easiest way to backup these files is to copy the SteamApps folder to a different location on your hard drive. Log out and exit Steam. The first time I loaded this game up it locked up and i was granted a continuous sound loop with no access to the task manager to close the program. Cue hard reset. I then loaded the game up and decided to click New Game straight away half life instead of changing the controls. The loading bar went filled and then about 50% of the way through the game minimised itself and i get presented with the following error message: Internal Driver Error in IDirect3DDevice9 :Present() I immediately thought driver problem! So I installed the latest ATI catalyst drivers and reloaded the game. This time and everytime I try to load the game now I get the above error when loading the half life 2 initial game menu screen. Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? Anyone had the same problem? I googled the error message and was granted with some people who had the same trouble with Half Life 2: Episode 1 so maybe it's a problem with the source engine? Any help on this would be much appreciated. My rig is as follows: P4 3.6Ghz 1GB DDR2PC3200 RAM Radeon X850XT Reply Reply With Quote 10-27-2006,06:09 PM #2 Dynamize View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Junior Member Join Date Jan 2005 Posts 2 Same error message here. I got to the first human opponents in the tutorial after I installed, and it crashed out after I killed the second guy. Just got home and fired it up for another go, and it crashed out at the bit where you use the nightvision for the first time After it drops to the desktop, I also get an error about MM.exe and it trying to access memory that "could not be "read"." Never had any problems with HL2 or HL2 Ep 1. I'll try installing the DirectX version on the game disc, although it's probably the same 9.0C that I've had on here for ages.
