sure if this is the right topic. If not, I'm sorry! Since a few hours ago my pc won't completely boot. I'm getting a 3rd slave hard disk error. And in the bios it states this: Primary IDE Master: Not Detected Primary IDE Slave: Not Detected SATA 1: Optiarc DVD RW AD- SATA 2: WDC ROM MODEL-BUCC I have a Asus P5KPL-AM IN/ROEM motherboard and I've got 0 knowledge 3rd master hard disk smart status bad about pc's Apr 18, 2012 #1 ComputerGuy55 TS Maniac Posts: 380 +8 If it is saying Disk 3 is having an error then I would either disconnect, or disable the 3rd drive. A bad drive could stall windows and prevent it from fully loading. Hopefully the 3rd drive is not the one with your OS on it. Apr 18, 2012 #2 Sybren TS Rookie Topic Starter Well I thinks it's the only disk I have, I've disconnected it reconnected it and my OS is on it. Should i reinstall windows? Apr 18, 2012 #3 Tmagic650 TS Ambassador Posts: 17,230 +232 The 3rd disc is the CD/DVD drive, not the hard drive. Disconnect it and see if the computer boots normally. If it does, replace the CD drive Apr 19, 2012 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) 3rd Master Hard Disk Error Solution
in 'General Hardware' started by Dfresh, Apr 27, 2011. Apr 27, 2011 #1 Dfresh [H]Lite Messages: 79 Joined: Mar 22, 2004 I have a system running with just 1 SATA WD5000AAKS http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/pc-wont-boot-3rd-slave-hard-disk-error.180052/ drive and a DVD burner on the first two SATA channels. I had an old dish network DVR that couldn't be activated, but it had a 500GB WD5000AAJS hard drive in it. So I yanked it out and plugged it into my box with no connection issues on the third SATA channel. When booting the POST sometimes picks it up with no problems https://hardforum.com/threads/3rd-slave-hard-disk-error.1604190/ and other times takes a couple minutes and finally says "3rd Slave Hard Disk Error". It gives me the option to press F1 to continue and when I boot into linux it's able to see it. Managed to go into gparted and delete all partitions then create a new one and format it with no problems. Even when booting into linux when the slave error pops up it's still able to mount it and read/write to it. If it boot into the windows xp OS it is able to see it, but I haven't confirmed yet if windows will see it if the slave error comes up on POST. Anyone have any ideas on this or what I should check?
