Secondary Master Hard Disk Error Windows 7
all started after an attempted BIOS update. I did use my Dell ID tag to obtain the proper download for my system. The next time I powered up my computer, I recevied the error message: Error auto-sensing secondary master hard disk drive. Sometimes it would not boot and other times it would boot and load Windows. I wrote to a Dell tech and he told me to reseat my memory. I have also removed and reinstalled the battery and removed all cables with the exception of the keyboard and monitor. It continued to repeat the above error message and would not load. Yesterday I powered it up to copy the error message for you and to my surprise it booted and loaded Windows. I had no problem with any of the operations of Windows. Now that I have shut it down, when I power it up it is repeating the error message and will not load Windows. I have lights 1,2 and 3 lit on the front panel of the computer with one beep prior to the error message. Help! 0 Advertisements #

Sometimes, just rebooting solved the problem but then it became stubborn and would not reboot. I checked the BIOS and sure enough, http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/238197-error-auto-sensing-secondary-master-hard-disk-drive/ the 2nd drive was not detected. ( I have two 500 GB sata drives in the system that are not set up in a RAID config. Just drives C and D.) I used that second drive only for system backups. I physically disconnected the 2nd drive and turned it off in BIOS and everything has been working fine for a week now. Today, I https://forums.techguy.org/threads/error-auto-sensing-secondary-master.1119177/ booted and got the same error message. When I hit F1 to continue, it said there was no PRIMARY master. I checked the BIOS and lo-an-behold, it doesn't see the primary drive now. I unplugged the computer for an hour and then started it back up. It works fine now. I find it hard to believe that both drives failed within a week or so of each other. Could there be something else that is causing this problem? SATA controller maybe? I'm at a loss. I am running Windows 7 and thankfully have the system backed up to two other drives. Open your case and find your secondary hard drive. you should see some pins and a little jumper near where the ribbon cable is plugged in on some of the pins, this should be mo

Was hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm having. I'm running a Dell Dimension 5150c. When I try to boot up I hear clicking noises from the tower that always click in the exact same pattern (six clicks, silence, two clicks, silence, two clicks). You could set your watch by them. Then I get the error message "error auto-sensing secondary master hard disk drive. Press F1 to retry boot or F2 to enter setup." I've heard before that any clicking n
