I used Hiren's Boot CD to repair the HDD. A program called HDD Regenerator changed something in the LBA and now the drive works just fine, but... now it shows a 1720-SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure (failing attr : 05) at boot. Asks for F1 everytime the comp is booting. I know it is a S.M.A.R.T. HDD error because the drive is dying (or maybe not? I was reading someone that had that error for 4 years!). I want to use the drive until it fails. There is no option in the BIOS for disabling the SMART. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and still nothing. Any idea on how to disable the SMART? Maybe under WindowsXP? Or repair the 1720 error? · actions · 2007-Aug-5 2:10 pm · ChiTangMVMjoin:2002-08-23Alhambra, CAkudos:1 ChiTang MVM 2007-Aug-5 4:07 pm If BIOS does not provide option to disable SMART warning, that is it. It has nothing to do with OS cos the MSG comes up at boot and not from the OS. Save yourself from some potential disaster, backup and replace the HD now. · actions · 2007-Aug-5 4:07 pm · BillVIPjoin:2001-12-091 edit Bill to ac
