Am hoping someone can help me with my infected computer.First off; I have Windows Vista, Dell Dimension, McAfee Antivirus. My McAfee alerted me to a found trojan and said it got rid of it. Shortly after I started having computer issues and the following message came up:Critical error damaged hard drive clusters detected?? Private data is at risk!!Then it says there is no disc space.I went to another computer to try to find some answers. It was suggested to run Dell Diagnostics and I did that, going through the memory and all hard drives. It came up with no problems. I then went to Device Manager and started looking into that when the error messages came up again.Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Edited by hamluis, 12 June 2011 - 07:14 A

the computer I was cleaning up was infected when its owner went to the following sites from a Google search. http://www.discountesteelauder.co.cc/78ke http://www.mainezoocoupons.co.cc/bi4k Neither site is operational now, but they http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/403261/critical-error-damaged-hard-drive-clusters-detected/ did show up in search results and helped infect the computer with some nasty rogue malware called Windows Diagnostic. This malware is virtually identical to a number of other drive utility type scareware products like Windows Repair, Windows Scan, Windows Safe Mode, Windows Disk, and Windows Restore. It shows a PC Performance & Stability report and scares you http://www.pchell.com/support/windows_diagnostic.shtml into thinking your computer is about to crash...unless you purchase the product. What Does Windows Diagnostic malware look like? The Windows Diagnostic malware presents a "PC Performance & Stability Report" when it pops up on your computer. This report shows the same sorts of alerts that many rogue antivirus type programs show. However, it takes things a step further. Instead of showing viruses, trojans, and other malicious programs that have invaded your computer, it tells you that your hard drive and computer are crashing with a variety of messages such as: "Hard Drive Failure The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE / SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system" "System Error An error occurred while reading system files. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors" "Critical Error Hard drive critical error. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors. Windows can't find hard disk space. Hard drive error" "Fix Disk Windows Diagnostic Di

It was entitled Windows 7 hard drive Recovery. At first the spyware makes you think that your hard drive has failed and that you have many errors on your system. What actually happens to your desktop is the interesting part. The spyware takes all programs, desktop items, as well as the startup programs and marks them as hidden. This gives you the impression that something damaged hard drive is wrong with your hard drive and you need to fix it. The fake Windows 7 Recovery then informs you that it has the ability to fix the issues for you if you purchase the software. This should be your first sign that it is not a legitimate piece of software. If you did not install it and itās asking you to buy it, then stop immediately and contact your IT support. Also, do not worry about your files, as they are still there just hidden. How to Fix: I ran the sysinternals tool "autoruns" to find out exactly what program was automatically running and causing the problem. I went to the logon tab and under the registry keys for run I found 3Ā suspiciousĀ files consisting of randomly generated characters. I removed all three of these as well as the registry keys associated with them. I also found a few other registry keys that were affected, which block certain things such as the ability to change the desktop background and use task manager. Remove
