I've saved the log from the Event Viewer here:https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=1285527DC975EB6F%21105. Does anyone know what's wrong with the hard disk? We bought the laptop only last year http://www.pchell.com/support/windows_diagnostic.shtml (or maybe last, last year latest). Thanks in advance! Regards, Grace :) Monday, December 01, 2014 11:47 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Depending on the amount of critical data you have you could hard drive upload it to your OneDrive. But overall it might be good just not to use your computer as much until you can get a good backup. If you need to use it just keep it cool. Oh, I forgot you mentioned you didn't know what compressed air was in reguards to blowing out dust. Compressed air can be from an air compressor or you can find these things Canned air When you have canned air you can hard drive error blow out the fan to through the heat sink. If you looking at the bottom of the laptop you should see the fan. As far as hard drive brands go Hitatchi in my opinion is good. They are owned by Western Digital now BTW. Seagate can be good as well. Laptop drives are a mixed bag in my opinion just because there is a lot of variables into there life span. When looking at drives you will see different colors and models. If you look at the warranty you will see 2, 3 and 5 year warranty's. Typically a 5 year warranty drive should be a good drive. 3 year is good as well and could be thought of as the norm. 2 year you might have issues with heat and small bumps quicker. I think I've used every brand of drive for laptops and they all seem to fail about the same. Since they fail about the same I would recommend do backups daily of your critical data. The nice thing if you buy a drive with a longer warranty if and when it dies you can get it replaced for a minimal shipping fee. rogue virus called Windows Diagnostic. Virus writers are becoming experts in SEO (search engine optimization) and are getting infected sites ranking very high in the search engines. Although these sites only rank high for a short time, they can do tremendous damage while they are showing up. In this particular case, the computer I was cleaning up was infected when its owner went to the following sites from a Google search. http://www.discountesteelauder.co.cc/78ke http://www.mainezoocoupons.co.cc/bi4k Neither site is operational now, but they did show up in search results and helped infect the computer with some nasty rogue malware called Windows Diagnostic. This malware is virtually identical to a number of other drive utility type scareware products like Windows Repair, Windows Scan, Windows Safe Mode, Windows Disk, and Windows Restore. It shows a PC Performance & Stability report and scares you into thinking your computer is about to crash...unless you purchase the product. What Does Windows Diagnostic malware look like? The Windows Diagnostic malware presents a "PC Performance & Stability Report" when it pops up on your computer. This report shows the same sorts of alerts that many rogue antivirus type programs show. However, it takes things a step further. Instead of showing viruses, trojans, and other malicious programs that have invaded your computer, it tells you that your hard drive and computer are crashing with a variety of messages such as: "Hard Drive Failure The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE / SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system" "System Error An error occurred while reading system files. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors" "Critical Error Hard drive critical error. Run a system diagnostic utility to check your hard disk drive for errors. Windows can't find hard disk space. Hard drive error" "Fix Disk Windows Diagnostic Diagnostics will scan the system to identify performance problems. Start or Cancel" "Windows Diagnostic Diagnostics Windows detected a hard disk error. A problem with the hard drive sectors has been detected. It is recommended to download the fol
