Everything was fine, until I turned it on and it wouldn't start http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?69036-Dell-Error-Code-2000-0142 up, it keep cycling asking me if I wanted to start in safe mode or last good configuration, but would never startup. I ran diagnostics and I got error code 2000-0142. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. Upon looking up this code all I have found is that the harddrive failed. Is this true? It is a new hdd, and nothing happened to it, or the last one for that matter. Could something internally be causing my harddrives to fail? HDDs don't like being jolted and because they contain electric motors they also don't like fluctuations in their power supply. It is not quite clear how (or indeed if) both your original and the current drive have completely failed. The current drive might have errors on it but you wouldn't even get the options to boot into safe mode etc if no access at all to the windows partition had been possible because of total HDD failure. This sounds much more like a poor or loose (either data or power) cable/connection to the HDD or even a faulty PSU.

Windows 7: Dell Inspiron 1545 - Won't boot. Error code 2000-1042. Any fix? 03 May 2011 #1 lee92 windows 7 home premium 1 posts Dell Inspiron 1545 - Won't boot. Error code 2000-1042. Any fix? I've had my computer for 8 months, it's a dell inspiron 1545 running windows 7 home premium. I'm suddenly unable to start the computer as it just comes up with a blue windows 7 screen with a cursor and that's it. I've tried starting it in normal mode and and startup repair but the same thing happens with both. I ran the diagnostics test and it came up with error code 2000-0142 which after googling i've found is a hard drive problem. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Will reinstalling windows 7 wipe my hard drive? I do not know alot about computers so any help would be greatly appreciated! When you say you have tried starting it in normal mode, you need to be able to get to that screen - correct?
