Have you emachines hard drive failure also installed Windows XP on this new drive? m 0 l medprior 7 December 2009 08:47:42 My last drive ended up with a backdoor trojan and wouldn't boot back up past the beginning of windows (where it looks like it is loading, no further, no safe mode -restarts @ that point, so it was gone, for me) so i removed it and installed the new hard drive. Yes, it is the only one showing and the primary and no, there is no OS on this system at all. There is nothing on it, just put it into my tower, put my Operating disc in my CD rom drive, set my CD rom to be the first to boot up in my bios, restarted it and it comes up, buzzes, blinks (the light for my CD rom) and then a black screen will come up saying that there is no bootable CD to put one in and click any button. So, there is nothing at all on this new hard drive and I don't have a floppy drive, only the CD rom and the USB hook ups to be able to install any software.

anyone else had an issue with hard drive failing since upgrading to Win 10? My hard drive is less than 2 years old and the not to polite woman at HP told me to replace it. http://www.windows10forums.com/threads/hard-drive-failure.3497/ Everything was fine until I upgraded. Software can't break the hard drive. Is it dead or can you access it? Are you getting a SMART error when booting? I've had hard drives die within months (I have a 750gb hdd from my dad's emachines in my basement. It was a year and a week old). Most hard drive mechanical hard drives carry a 2 year warranty. Although being OEM, it would probably have to be warrantied through HP. Which is probably only a year. I don't know what to tell you, other than hard drives are relatively cheap. If you activated your Windows 10, you should be able to do a clean install. As far as getting the data off the disk, that could be a bit complicated, if it's even possible.. emachine hard drive BigFeet, Sep 14, 2015 #2 Advertisements Redheadgranny Joined: Sep 14, 2015 Messages: 4 Likes Received: 0 I am still able to access it but I am getting an error. When I contacted HP about it they said it needed to be replaced and if I continued to use it I could loose all my data. Priced the hard drive at between $50 - $80 and the installation would be approx $150.00 on top of that. Since I am 75 and not really that tech savvy, doing it myself is not really an option. Replacing a hard drive is not as difficult as it sounds, although data recovery from a bad hard disk and the installation of an OS on the new hard drive can complicate things a bit. Do you have a friend, neighbor or relative who might be a little more computer savvy than you who you might talk to about the problem. Is there a local business that might perform the job cheaper in your area. I'm wondering how HP determined that your disk was bad did they have you run any diagnostic utilities to test the disk? They are correct, continuing to use a failing hard disk can f

Does anyone have any ideas about the steps I should take in an attempt to fix this problem. I have searched the forums but am a bit lost about some of the suggestions. Any simply explained suugested solutions would be appreciated. Thanks Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top whs Posts: 17584 This post has been reported. As a first measure I would run a chkdsk c: /r in cmd - e.g. from an installations disc. That would be as easy as it comes. (F2) Change the 1st boot device to CD/DVD Another option is to tap F12 on boot and change the boot order to CD/DVD Mike Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top whs Posts: 17584 This post has been reported.
