It seems to be a problem with iTunes not wanting to connect to the iTunes Store. I followed instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717 and the fix that did it for me was deleting C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunesAfter this my iTunes started up fine. It stopped being fine however when I tried to access the iTunes Store. So the quick fix is to delete the iTunes folder and don't try to get onto the iTunes Store.
