Garage is empty, add now Join Date: Jan 2012 Posts: 9 Rep Power: 0 trouble codes and symptoms 1996 civic just bought a 1996 civic automatic. check engine light is on and the only real issue i noticed is that right after you crank the car up it runs a little rough... not real bad like a bad skip, but definately skipping. if you rev it up it will clear up and run good or if you put it in drive and drive it, it runs excellent. will not skip again unless you turn the car off and crank it back up. no matter how long between turn off and turn on. anyway, im getting these 5 codes: P1300 random cylinder misfire P0302 cylinder 2 misfire P0304 cylinder 4 misfire P0118 coolant temp sensor P0420 catalyst effiency i dont THINK the headgasket is blown, it does not seem to loose coolant, does not run hot, runs very good, spark plugs are not saturated they are whitish grey color on the tips of all 4 of them. plugs and wires do not look very old at all. any help would be appreciated. 01-21-2012 #2 ezone Where angels fear to tread 1977 Tony Alva SkateboardMy Garag

Thankfully, the upstream O2 sensor's heater element can be easily tested with just a multimeter (no scan tool required) and in this tutorial you'll find out how. Here are the contents of this tutorial: Circuit Descriptions of the Upstream Oxygen Sensors. TEST 1: Verifying the Heater Element is Getting Power. TEST 2: Verifying the Heater Element is Getting Ground. TEST 3: Testing the Heater Element's Resistance. Where to Buy the Oxygen Sensor and Save Some $$$. Circuit Descriptions of the Upstream Oxygen Sensors Previous image Enlarge Close Next image Image of Your Honda Civic's upstream O2 sensor is a 4 wire sensor. Each wire has a specific job to do. The two that we're gonna' be concerned about... to diagnose the P0135 trouble code lighting up your Civic's check engine light, are the ones that carry power and ground to the upstream O2 sensor's heater element. The table below shows a brief description of the front O2 sensor's circuits: Here are the circuit descriptions of the 4 wires (taking into account the engine code): Upstream Oxygen Sensor Pinout (1995-2000 1.6L Honda Civic DX, EX, and LX) Pin Wire Color Description 1 WHT PHO2S (Sensor Signal) 2 GRN/BLK SG2 (Sensor Ground) 3 BLK/YEL Heater Element
