Hotsync Error 8004
Pupule, Jan 14, 2006. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Pupule Newbie Messages: 1 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 1 I am installing Desktop 4.1.4 after reinstalling XP Pro SP2. The machine was first fully patched before installing 4.1.4. The Palm Desktop is installed to the same drive as it was before, D:, and it is the same version as before. I'm using a Plam III and a serial connection, as I was before. I did not delete any files before installing the Palm desktop. The machine's C: drive was taken to bare metal, delete partition and format, before installing XP. Hotsync asks me if I want to create a new account on the PC, I click Yes and enter the handheld's password. Hotsync starts but ends quickly. I'm probably overlooking something dumb, any help would be appreciated. Thanks. John Pupule, Jan 14, 2006 #1 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) In my example the fault was in a WMI script, the cause was a syntax error with Set objWMI = GetObject("winmgmts:" CorrectSet objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" _ & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") WrongSet objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _& strComputer & "\root\cimv2") The Solution I solved this 80041021 error message by paying close attention to the line number. In addition, I compared the scripts to other WMI examples. In one case it turned out to be a missing \\ in Set objWMI = GetObject("winmgmts:\\"..... In another case it was a missing & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" _ » If you are stuck try a parallel troubleshooting approachSuppose that your mission is to create a WMI script which interrogates Win32_ComputerSystem, but the script just won't work. Instead of going around in circles, try substituting a different Win32_Object. If that also fails, look for a common cause, for instance, the fault with: GetObject("winmgmts:" & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}! By trying a parallel approach you can isolate the error.
