The only thing that’s left is to print it and submit it on time. You quickly hit Control P, select the appropriate options, hit Okay, and then sit back and wait for your trusty printer to do its thing. But then, lo and behold, an evil window pops up on your screen stating “Cannot print – replace the cartridge.” Now, before you start hyperventilating and pulling out all your hair, here are a couple tips that could save you a lot of frustration. Unbeknownst to many users, many printers automatically block you from using your black cartridge if your color ink is empty. The bad news is that this has to do with manufacturers maximizing profits. The good news is that it is quite possible to navigate around those settings. Not to insult anyone’s intelligence, but the first step is always to restart the printer. Then making sure your printer is on, open it, remove the cartridges, and wipe the contacts with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. After that, return the cartridges to their carriages, then turn your printer off, unplug it from the outlet, and remove any other cables connecting it to another device. Wait for about a minute or so, then plug everything back in, and start your printer back up. Try printing a test page to see if you’re back in business or not. Time to start ratcheting up your efforts. Open up the “Control Panel,” then look for the icon called, “Printers and Faxes” (or in some operating systems, just “Printers”). Once you’ve opened it, right-click on your default printer. When the drop-down menu appears, click on “Printing Preferences.” This will open up another window full of options that can enable you to adjust many settings in your printer. Look for a tab or option that relates to color. (Note: You may have to hit the “Adva
