The printer automatically begins a 05 SELF TEST after power on and then displays a "50 Service" code. Seeing that most 50 error codes are fuser related and I had never replaced the fuser http://printertechsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?2534-Laserjet-4-error-code-quot-50-Service-quot-help or even serviced the printer before this, I assumed that the fuser was the issue. I ordered a maintenance kit and replaced it. It went through the 05 SELF TEST and 02 WARMING UP mode and then I heard a click. Now I still get the "50 Service" error code again. Turning the printer off for 15 minutes does not fix the problem. This is not identified in my book or on your website. It must be more serious than just a fuser related issue. Any Suggestions as to what a "50 Service" code means? The power supply makes logic voltages and supplies 110 volts for the fuser. The "50 Service" can mean that the fuser is not warming up or that it has overheated. Is there any way you can get these fusers into another LJ 4 to test them? If you have a meter you could check for 110VAC fuser voltage at the pow

Possibly a cooling fan or the fuser itself hp laser needs replacing. by unknown on Aug 12, 2004 at 11:46am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 A 50 SERVICE indicates a problem with the fuser. Start there first, is it getting hot? The snag is, is it the fuser that's faulty? or is it the power supply to the fuser? If you have a pal with a LJ 4, see if you can borrow the fuser to try it out. There is a link for checking the lamp continuity before ordering. by jon on Aug 12, 2004 at 8:50pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 My printer is also throwing the 50 service code. The printer was given to me, however the unit was missing the toner cartridge. Would the missing cartridge cause the printer to throw a code 50? by unknown on May 11, 2005 at 11:00pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Missing cartridge has absolutely nothing to do with the fuser not reaching operating temperature. You'll still need one to print after you get rid of the 50 error. by moe on May 11, 2005 at 11:20pm Add comment Please sign in to comment That's what I was thinking, but wanted to be sure before I spent the money on the fuser. I tested the fuser based on this link http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/guides/
