Apr 10, 2008 01:01 PM|littlealex|LINK I'm running vista home premium with https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/247603 iis7 and I've got the same problem. I've checked permissions on wwwroot and made sure my folder has the same permissions and i still get the problem as below: I've also tried giving Full control permission to everything and still got this problem - not sure where to go now! Andrew Server Error in Application "Default Web Site" HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized Description: You do not have permission to view this directory or http://forums.iis.net/t/1148826.aspx?HTTP+Error+401+3+Unauthorized+Access+is+denied+due+to+an+ACL+set+on+the+requested+resource+ page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server. If the resource is located on a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) share, the authenticated user may not have sufficient share and NTFS permissions, or the permissions on the share may not match the permissions on the physical path. The file is encrypted. What you can try: Open Windows Explorer and check the ACLs for the file that is being requested. Make sure that the user accessing the Web site is not being explicitly denied access, and that they do have permission to open the file. Open Windows Explorer and check the ACLs for the share and the physical path. Ensure that both ACLs allow the user to access the resource. Open Windows Explorer and check the encryption properties for the file that is being requested. (This setting is located in the Advanced attribute properties dialog.) If the web site is displaying the http error following error it typically means that the site does not have permissions to access the files. HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource. Internet Information Services (IIS) Follow these steps to correct the NTFS permissions issue. First you will need to login to the web server where the site is hosted. Next you will need to open up the IIS Manager. Expand the tree on the left hand site http error 401.3 to list all the web sites on the web server. Now locate the site on the right hand window and right click on it and select Properties. Now select the Directory Security tab. Now click the edit button at the top under Authentication and Access control. At the top of the box you will see the windows user name the site uses. Now that we know what user name the site is using we can grant permissions for it. Access the hard drive on the server and find the web site's folder. The folder should be ‘c:\inetpub\wwwroot\domainname' in most cases. In this case, its ‘c:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite.net\'. Once you are in that folder you should see another wwwroot folder, right click on it and select ‘Sharing and Security‘. Now select the ‘Security‘ tab and click the Add button. Now click the ‘Advanced' button and then the ‘Find‘ Now button. This will display all users on the system, locate the user the site was using in IIS and highlight it and then click Ok. Once the user is in the dialog box press Ok again. Now, grant that user Modify permissions by checking the Modify checkbox and then hit Ok. After all these steps have been completed test the site. It should no longer be displaying the access error. If you need any assistance with this process, or encounter any issues, please don't hesitate to conta

I created an SSL certificate and done binding new website. HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized You do not have permission to view this directory or page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server. Earlier when I created the website, I selected 'application user(pass through authentication)' in 'Add Website' dialogue. and when I click "Test Settings ..." button, I get this error message: The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that \$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again. Please suggest solution to this. If you are using Windows authentication with passthrough you need to ensure that the application pool and the accessing user has permission to the directory. –tomasmcguinness May 5 '11 at 15:49 @ tomasmcguinness How can I check these permissions in IIS 7.5 –DotnetSparrow May 5 '11 at 15:51 1 Navigate to the document root directory for your site in explorer then check the folder properties, security tab. –Rup May 5 '11 at 15:52 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted Make sure that application pool of your website and website both are running under the same identity. Then make sure that this identity has required permissions on the virtual directory. I had exact same issue and above two checks fixed it. share|
