The OS is Windows 2000 currently with SP3 as well, since it looks for the version of many pieces of software and if they are not exactly it says , you need xxx. When installing the SCT or the ADX (the last pieces to install and the main programs) it goes http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic178072-9-1.aspx thru the install and the error in the GUI with a XPPKInitconsole.exe "Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" error, but the install continues and says completed successfully. Just before that error comes up on the GUI it is stating that it is Restoring Security settings (most likely in the SQL Database). In the Application Event log about 30-40 seconds before the application Pop-Up window, I get multiple Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: MSSQLSERVEREvent Category: (2)Event ID: 17055Date: 4/26/2005Time: 11:44:01 AMUser: XXXXX\XXXXXComputer: XXXXXDescription:18272 :I/O error on backup or restore restart-checkpoint file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\backup\MetasysIII.ckp'. Operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). The statement is proceeding but is non-restartable.Where the User is actually the Default Built-INAdministrator account renamed of course. I have seen many places where it said that you need to create a backup directory there so I have done that and same problem. I never see any files showing up in there during the install, which I have a window opened to that directory in the background during the installation. Thanks,Steven Stuart Post #178072 TH-221960TH-221960 Posted Wednesday, April 27, 2005 1:11 PM SSC Rookie Group: General Forum Member

Can you please suggest a fix? Backup,Unknown,During restore restart an I/O error occurred on checkpoint file 'd:\dwd\smot\res.CKP' (operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.)). The statement is proceeding but cannot be restarted. Ensure that a valid storage location exists for the checkpoint file. Backup,Unknown,Error: 18272 Severity: 16 State: 1. Thank you sql-server-2005 share|improve this question asked Apr 6 '11 at 17:14 user387268 migrated from stackoverflow.com Apr 6 '11 at 17:19 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote It sounds like one of these scenarios: The file isn't at 'd:\dwd\smot\res.CKP' The file is there but the process that is attempting to restore it does not have read permissions. The file is there and the permission are good, but the file is corrupt. share|improve this answer answered Apr 6 '11 at 17:21 RQDQ 1012 The fix for #2 is obvious, but is there a way s/he could create (or re-create, if corrupt) the checkpoint file - preferably non-destructively? –voretaq7♦ Apr 6 '11 at 18:36 1 I was hoping the original poster would give us some insight into which it was. Unfortunately if it's #3, s/he is most likely out of luck. The only way to fix the issue is to create another backup file / checkpoint file. And the only way to do so that I'm aware of is to have the original database up and running. Of course, if you're trying to restore from a file, that usually means that the original database isn't available. –RQDQ Apr 6 '11 at 20:47 add a comment| You
