How do I fix this problem?A. This message appears when you don’t have a floppy drive attached to Linux server. Solution is quite simple just disable driver for floppy and buffer i/o error on device sr0 logical block 0 reboot the system. You can verify this with the following command (this solution works with RHEL, CentOS, Redhat, Ubuntu/Debian and other Linux distros) : # lsmod | grep -i floppy Output:floppy 95465 0Open file called /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist: # vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist Listing a module (driver name) in this file prevents the hotplug scripts from loading it. Usually that'd be so that some other driver will bind it instead, no matter which driver happens to get probed first. Sometimes user mode tools can also control driver binding. Append following line: blacklist floppy Save and close the file. Now reboot the Linux server: # reboot Share this tutorial on:TwitterFacebookGoogle+Download PDF version Found an error/typo on this page?About the author: Vivek Gite is a seasoned sysadmin and a trainer for the Linux/Unix & shell scripting. Cesare, you out there? I do not have a floppy reader nor a bay to insert one, unless of course, I pulled out my CD/DVD and replaced with one. I am not sure how to get into the BIOS to disable? Note: During installation I had in the pci slots a Broadcom 4318 wireless card and a Sony Memory Stick/PC i/o error card adaptor Thought i would include that...not sure if in preparing the installation if OS might not llike that???? In a terminal: sudo kate /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and add this at the end: # floppy driver since I don't have one blacklist floppy Also, if in the file /etc/fstab there is an entry like this: /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user, noauto 0 0 Add a # in front. Reboot and let us know if you still get the error message! KingdomKid (kingdomkid) said on 2007-06-04: #4 Thanks Cesare Tirabassi, that solved my question. JCenteno (jenarocenteno) said on 2007-06-13: #5 I have been dealing with this error for a while, and the curios thing is that after 6 to 8 hours the system begins to slow down until it's not possible to keep working, so a reset is needed, looking at the logs of the system the only error that I found is the one mentioned in this post, so I've blacklisted
