syschktab_fast; slv; error; delimident Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) You attempt to complete a backup of your Informix instance and errors similar to the following are returned: 2015-12-09 08:10:05 9731 9729 SQL -217 Column (syschktab_fast) not found in any table in the query (or SLV is undefined). 2015-12-09 08:10:05 9731 9729 SQL -217 Column (syschktab_fast) not found in any table in the query (or SLV is undefined). 2015-12-09 08:10:05 9731 9729 SQL -217 Column (syschktab_fast) not found in any table in the query (or SLV is undefined). 2015-12-09 08:10:05 9731 9729 SQL -217 Column (syschktab_fast) not found in any table in the query (or SLV is undefined). Cause This error is returned because 'syschktab_fast' is actually a table in the sysmaster database, but it is being referenced as a column. This was likely caused because the sysmaster database was created when DELIMIDENT was set in the environment. Resolving the problem If the sysmaster database becomes damaged, you will need to take the following steps to rebuild the sysmaster database: 1) Bring the Informix Server to offline mode 2) Ensure that DELIMIDENT is not set in the environment 3) Run the following to prevent admin jobs from starting and locking the sysmaster tables: cat /dev/null > $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sysadmin/stop 4) Bring the Informix Server to online mode 5) Recreate the sysmaster database by running the following: $INFORMIXDIR/etc/buildsmi 6) Monitor the online.log to ensure the sysmaster database was successfully built, then attempt the backup again *note that it is advised to backup the instance before rebuilding the sysmaster database, but if backups are failing and you don't have a recent successful backup, you might consider the use of dbexport before rebuilding the sysmaster database. The name appears in the select list or WHERE clause http://www.sqlserverf1.com/tag/informix-error-code-217/ of this query but is not defined in a table and does not appear as a statement local variable (SLV) definition. Check that the column name or SLV name and the names of the selected tables are spelled as you intended. If all names are spelled correctly, you are not using the right tables, the database has been changed, or you have not defined the SLV. If the name not found is a reference to a column, that column might have been renamed or dropped. If the name not found represents an SLV and you defined the SLV in the statement, make sure that the SLV definition appears before all other references to that SLV name. This error message can also appear during the execution of an ALTER TABLE statement when the engine tries to update views that depend on the table.
