Nor are they guaranteed to retrieve data in any order, except when you supply the sort order as a part of your SQL statement. The primary index stores for every row the key value(s) together with a kind of serial called rowid. This rowid is a pointer to the specific row in the involved datapage and is assigned during insertion of the row. With results of multi table queries I guess it's decided by the rowids of the dominant table and in many cases dependent of the query plan of the optimizer. Hi, possibly you do not have enough space for temporary data available. Bye Stefan Top Error 567 - Cannot Write Sorted Rows - Help Needed by Gladson M. Russ » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00 Francis, Take a look in the DBTEMP variable. The default is to point to the "/tmp" directory,if this variable is pointing to another dir, then verify if the filesystemhas suficient free space. Verify if the rootdbs has suficient free space. If the rootdbs is mounted via NFS then you may also get this error. Gladson M. Russo ---- Error 567 - Cannot write sorted rows. Can anybody please enlighten what is this error and how to resolve it. Help - weird error 567 - fixed it, but need to know more Hi all, Try the following on a table that only has 2000 rows SELECT * FROM TSTHESAURU WHERE ( tmSearchKey > '' ) ORDER BY tmSearchKey; I get -- [Informix][Dynamic Server, Workgroup Edition][grant_nt1] SQL Error (-567) : Cannot write sorted rows. [ ISAM error -2 : No such file or directory ] -567 says see the accompanying messages. -2 is the good old No such file or directory. My only assumption was it's trying to sort to disk - and can't find the directory. So, hunted through my ONCONFIG, but couldn't find anything that looked like a sort directory entry. Out of blind luck, I saw that \tmp was refered to in a few places, but for things like DRLOSTFOUND and DUMPDIR. None of these suggest for a minute they have anything to do with disk sorts. But, as soon as I p
