different device but print with all non epson cartridges OK - Anonymous Some new info: some online retailers are sending out older versions of ink cartridges whose chips are no longer recognised by recently manufactured models,[ethical? who knows, buyer beware]. Model xyz built in Jan. will utilize these chips/cartridges, but model xyz built in Sept. does not. Ink is big bucks to Epson, they want you to buy only their ink at inflated price, they will do anything to stop "compatable ink" retailers. Bought high cap ink cart just last week from fry's. Bought the printer last month from fry's. I am about ready to scream. I have written about 4 emails to Epson regarding said problem... all I got was info I could have read in the manual. I guess they don't know most consumers can read. They were NO help. The solution was to push down on the cartridge an additional 1/4 inch so that until it clicked in place. -Try pressing down on the level replacement cartridge 1/4" until it clicks - this may even work for non-Epson cartridges as well. - Anonym

If this does not correct the problem, remove the suspect cartridge(s) and carefully inspect the smart chip on the bottom of cartridge. The chip should be present and there should be NO cuts or gashes on the micro-chip surface as this may render the cartridge unusable. If the ink cartridge has been reprogrammed a 2nd time and the problem persists then the cartridge is likely internally electrically damaged (ink level monitoring circuit) and will need to be replaced. NOTE 1: On some Epson printer models you may need to scroll thru the menu options (i.e. right arrow key) to help determine which specific ink cartridge is actually causing the ‘Unrecognized Cartridge' error condition. You only need to replace the actual cartridge which is causing the issue. NOTE 2: A compatible, remanufactured or re-
