Today we talk about what happens when the ink system really does fail. Ink System Failure; Error: 0xc19a0035 As I demonstrated yesterday, some (but not all) of HP's inkjet http://blog.fosketts.net/2010/12/24/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-error-0xc19a0035/ cartridges have a pre-programmed expiration date. Though no one from HP could explain exactly what was expiring and why some of their other inks don't expire, their online documents suggest dire consequences from dried-up ink. Presumably, one of those consequences is "ink system failure", and that's just what happened to my PhotoSmart C6180 recently. I have no idea if my use of expired inks was responsible for this error, but it seems likely. Regardless, the message popped up and the printer refused to print any longer. Following some hard-to-locate directions, I was able to reset the printer by holding down the "#" and "6" keys during a power-on. The printer then came back to life and appeared to be printing just fine. Just to be sure, I printed out a test page and performed a head-cleaning operation. Death of a Printer About a week later, my PhotoSmart began acting up again. It started rebooting constantly, not even making it all the way through the power-up cycle before a harsh "click" and another restart. Again, I followed the online

Yes, got ink system failure. And when I turn it off using the on-off swtich and then turn back on I get an error message saying I shut it down incorrectly. I just tried to replicate that by turning it ink system failure off and on again, but it went okay this time. Expert: Robert Preston replied6 years ago. HelloMost likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:(1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head and the electronic contacts on each ink cartridge.(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges(6) Try to print something nowIf that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced. Thanks and please click the green ACCEPT button after reviewing my answer. Thanks,Rob Robert Preston, Technician Category: Printers Satisfied Customers: 9561 Experience:5+ Years of Hardware Printer repair including installation and repair of Xerox MFP devices Robert Preston and 2 other Printers Specialists are ready to help you Ask your own question now Expert: Sudipto replied6 years ago. it ever since. I did the chat with a tech from HP(live from Bombay, it's "Sherry"!!) and who would have guessed it she was no help. Her only idea after just telling me what was in the FAQ section of the mannual was to take it back to where I bought it from! Does anyone have any ideas what to do or even what causes this error? Thanks for the help! Respond to this 1 Yes, it is a known problem & if what I say next doesn't help then take it back for another one. --- The ink system has to pump up or be primed to work & yours just did not complete it on its own. Have you inserted all 6 inks ? They need to be in to have ink to prime the machine. Try holding down the ok -- cancel -- black -- color buttons with 4 fingers while at the same time powering the unit off. Keep them held down till it is off. Then turn it back on normally & it should try to do "Maintenance" & you hear a whirling noise --- that is the ink pump spinning to try & pump in ink to the print head. If all fails you may have a bad printer out of the box. If no one helps you then call HP & ask for an "all in one case manager" (877)917-4380 Ext.95 by unknown on Mar 7, 2008 at 9:35am Add comment Please sign in to comment Thanks Dave, my 7280 was just 2 months out of warranty and I had the ink system error OPxc18a0101 which appeared to coincide with the black cartridge running out, but replacement and switch on/off did not work. The 4 finger solution allows a complete reset and the problem is solved. - Anonymous I cant thank you enough ! advise worked well - I had just moved office and re connecting all computers printers etc and was ready to print of invoicing when ink system failier occurred error code 0xc18a0106 the pressing of the buttons you suggested worked and printer when through a reboot and all works as normal again --- yipee - momno 1 Thanks for the fast reply. When you say hold down the ok, cancel, etc buttons, which black and color buttons are you talking about? by unknown on Mar 7, 2008 at 9:40am Add comment Please sign in to comment I
