Dirk Strauss . . . . iTunes Installation Error – It seems as though some users have had issues installing iTunes 12.3 (among other Apple software *cough*iOS9*cough*). The error description is also not very helpful either. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. That error message was about as helpful as a spoon in a pogo stick contest. iTunes Installation Error So when I saw the message, I was quite frankly stumped. I resigned myself to the fact that I would actually need to sift through some Apple Support forums. Luckily for me, the answer was close at hand. In one Apple Support forum thread, the users were mentioning that the issue resided with the Apple Software Update service on Windows. The solution therefore is quick and painless. Head on over to Programs and Features and right-click the update app. Select Repair from the context menu that pops up. In no time, Windows does its thing. In fact I had to double-check because I wasn’t sure that the repair did anything. Restarting the installer proved successful and the installation of iTunes 12.3 completed without errors.
