My computer is WindowXP Pro and IIS 5.1 isinstalled. I made sure all the components of IISare https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/311766 installed. I ticked the World Wide Web Services when I installed the IIS. When I typed http;//localhost on the Internet Explorer 7,Error message comes out so I made myself a default html page saying that this is a test page. That is fine. I can get that page. And any html files I created and saved in www.root folder. I can see in the Internet Explorer after typing http;//localhost/anything.html. But as soon as I create an ASP http://forums.iis.net/t/1127251.aspx?ASP+file+with+HTTP+500+Internal+Server+Error page and saved in www.root folder,HTTP500 Internal Server Error Page cannot displaycomes out in Internet Explorer. Ther are two asp files already in www.root folder I did not make those, they came with IIS. One call iisstart.asp and another call localstart.asp. I typed http;//localhost/iisstart.asp and alsoI typed http;//localhost/localstart.asp but result is the same. HTTP 500 Internal Server Error Page cannot display. When I double clicked the iisstart.asp file in the www.root folder, It opens up with the Dreamweaver and saying as follows. Under Construction(www.root/iisstart.asp) Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded and configured. Please try this site again later. If you still experience the problem, try contacting the Web site administrator. When I double clicked the localhost.asp file in the www.root folder, it opens up with Dreamweaver and saying as follows. Wellcome to Window Xp Server Internet Services(www.root/localstart.asp) Your Web service is now running. You do not currently have a default Web page established for your users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists the following files as possible default Web pages: . Currently, only iisstart.asp exists. To add documents to your default Web site, save files in . Can anybody tell me what I sh

However; there is nothing showing up in the Application Event Log where I would expect to see a (more) detailed description internal server error of the entry. How can I go about diagnosing this issue? iis-7.5 windows-event-log 500-error asp.net-mvc share|improve this question edited Jul 16 '12 at 7:55 asked Jul 15 '12 at 21:25 Greg B 4843825 I've had the exact same issue here. In my experience, if the event log is empty than the request wasn't correctly routed to the worker process. In one of our recent deployments we saw the app work intermittently with about 50% of the requests randomly failing with the 500 error and nothing in the logs. I suspect something is going wrong with the AppDomain unload that occurs after deployment. Out of curiosity, are you running antivirus in your production environment? Does an IIS reset solve the issue (until the next deployment)? –ShadowChaser Feb 21 '13 at 16:17 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 22 down vote accepted Take a look at IIS7's Failed Request Tracing feature: Troubleshooting Failed Requests Using Tracing in IIS 7 Troubleshoot with Failed Request Tracing The other thing I would do is tweak your
Resolving 500 Server Errors on IIS Almost everyone has encountered an http 500 internal server error as they browse the web. 500 internal server errors have several names. You may see the page report a HTTP 500 internal server error, a HTTP 500 error or a HTTP error 500. Developers and website administrators may see a 500 Internal Server error when managing their own server. What is a 500 Internal Server Error? In short, a HTTP 500 error means that there is a problem with the configuration of the server. An HTTP 500 error is not a problem the end user can solve themselves. In their case, they must report the problem to the server administrator or site owner. But if you are managing your own IIS server and it’s your job to diagnose 500 server errors, there are several ways to make the process easier. Diagnosing 500 Internal Server Errors When you receive a HTTP 500 error report, assuming the server is remote (not the same computer that you are running the application or site on) you probably won’t be given much indication as to where the problem lies. The text that accompanies an HTTP 500 error is deliberately very vague by default: this is a security measure which avoids exposing technical information to end users. However, this can be changed to help you diagnose the problem. Change Error Reporting In IIS In IIS, it’s possible to change error reports to provide more information on the error. This feature is best used with caution and is most suitable for development servers which are not exposed to a broad audience. Find the site in IIS Manager and click on it. Then double click on the ASP section which is under IIS: Open the Debugging Properties node, and change the value of “Send Errors to Browser” to True: Click Apply in the upper right. Now click again on the web site (in this case, we are using Default Web Site as an example) and double click Error Pages: When this dialog opens, you will see various IIS errors. Right click on the 500 error and choose Edit Feature Settings. In the Edit Error Pages Settings window, select the Detailed errors radio button and click OK: Now when you run your application and receive the 500 Internal Server Error, you’ll receive more detail about the error. Use Server Logs or the Windows Event Viewer If you encounter HTTP error 500 while running a .Net application, the Windows Event Viewer can help you to trace 50
