ADO.Net xml up vote 1 down vote favorite Okay here is the scenario I have a VB6 application that is getting re-written for asp.net 3.5. I have a grundle of Crystal Reports that are getting updated to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1099723/crystal-reports-invalid-argument-provided-failed-to-open-a-rowset-ado-net-xml Crystal Reports 10.5 (which is included in Visual Studio 2008). All of the old reports used OLEDB. What I am doing is taking the sql statements used in the reports and putting them in the database. I next run an automated process to create a Dataset from those select statements and I serialize the DataSet and save the schema and data as an XML document. I then go into the old report update it to Crystal Reports 10.5 and change the Data Source location so that it uses the XML document. When the report is run I create the same DataSet and instead of serializing it as XML I assign it to the report (see below) rd.Database.Tables(0).SetDataSource(ds) I have tested this and do not get any errors if I create the report new but if I take an existing report and change the database location I get the following error Invalid Argument provided. Solved Crystal reports .NET - Invalid argument for database - When changing databases Posted on 2008-09-22 .NET Programming Crystal Reports DB Reporting Tools 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 2,857 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-07 We have invalid argument some crystal reports that were created in Visual Studio 2005 that have worked very well when they were linked to a Microsoft Access database. Our company's data footprint has grown and we have converted all of our production data to SQL server 2005. Changeing the data sources location inide the crystal reports designer is easy and fairly straightforward. However there is one report that I cannot get to run after I had updated the data invalid argument for sources location. The report has a connection to two tables and also contains a sub-report that is connected to the same two tables. The tables are almost exactly the same as the ones in Access that it was previously connected to. In fact, we used the Access to SQL converter to convert them. We have only added a few fields to it. Why is it that when I run the report in ASP.net it comes up with the error "Invalid Argument provided. Error in File (report).rpt: Invalid argument for database."? 0 Question by:jpwallen Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 1 Best Solution byjpwallen I seemed to have solved the problem by myself. Apparently there is some data in one of the tables (we have linked tables for the report) that was not found in the other table. I solved this by setting Go to Solution 7 Comments LVL 100 Overall: Level 100 Crystal Reports 94 DB Reporting Tools 31 .NET Programming 26 Message Active today Expert Comment by:mlmcc2008-09-22 Was the subreport created as a separate report then added? Failed to open a rowset. Oct 19, 2008 01:51 PM|coolvaas1|LINK I have written an application that allows me to add reports and view them in the web browser. Everything works perfect if I use tables. The moment I use sql commands, it gives me many problems. Still if I use one sql command everything is good. I have the following scenario. When I use a report with one sql command and one table, I get the following error : Invalid Argument provided. Failed to open a rowset. Error in File C:\Temp\report1 {F0AAC473-3B29-4D67-ACCE-79F7AA3B0738}.rpt: Invalid argument for database. When I use more than one SQL command, I get the following error : Failed to open a rowset. But when I deploy it, I have all those above problems. To check more about this, I deployed the application into the development pc itself and I still get the error. All the above reports use an SQL ODBC connection to get data from another server. All ODBC connections use intergrated security. I am not sure how to fix this. I googled it, no luck so far. And I am stuck with this for the past 2 weeks. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am using the following code to display the report. Dim impersonationContext As System.Security.Principal.WindowsImpersonationContext Dim currentWindowsIdentity As System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity currentW
