I read that this works usually out of the box with Ubuntu 11.10? What can I do to fix this? I have read articles in the past about having to remove Network Manager in order to use wicd. I am not sure, because invalid argument I use Network Manager, myself.Tim Offline #3 2012-06-10 20:34:32 Zaek Member Registered: 2012-06-06 Posts: 7 Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet 1. Have you tried to scan for your wifi using another device? - For instance smartphone or another computer?2. Like Ratcheer mentioned, you're most likely going to have to remove network manager in order to use wicd without problems.Try to do this (In a terminal)ifconfig wlan0 downifconfig wlan0 upiwlist error inserting ath5k wlan0 scan#(The previous thing should give you information about all the networks it can find, if it doesn't find anything try:killall wicdkillall networkmanagerkillall network-manager-gnomeAnd then try iwlist wlan0 scan againIf you get results using that, try to connect to it Assuming you're not using any protection on your wifi, type this:iwconfig essid NAMEOFYOURWIFI Then run iwconfig again, to see if it has gotten in touch with your router. Then finally, run dhclient wlan0 #To get an ip adressIf this works, then at least your internet, and computer is fine!Assuming this works, try to use networkmanager to connect to the wifi, or re-install wicd, and rebooting(rebooting might just be crazy enough to work!)
