PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote How weird it is. I ran into the same issue however I was able to fix it. Funny thing is that the first server I installed Server 2012 it was Standard Edition and everything went well with creating iSCSI VHD. Second server, it was Datacenter Edition (Thanks MSDN) and ran into microsoft iscsi initiator service stopping the message: The Microsoft iSCSI Software Target service could not create the virtual disk using device s:\iscsi\backup.vhd. The operation failed with error code 2147942560. I said no way! So, I started to pock around thinking that my NIC Teaming was the issue, removed it, rebooted, nope! Then looking in the logs (you have two sets of logs, one for iSCSI and one on the local server tab, look for iscsi in the filter) I found the following: In the logs, you should see a message similar to this one: Status 0x00001069 determining that device interface Marked as answer by Saman111 Saturday, April 13, 2013 2:39 PM Thursday, April 11, 2013 8:30 PM Reply | Quote All replies 1 Sign in to vote Hi, When trying to create a VHD file, it will ask for choosing a server and a volume to create. What type of Target? iscsi virtual disk From my experience with several iSCSI targets, MS' iSCSI Initiator is a very reliable indicator to the location of the problem. The most common reasons for getting this type of error for were - Target was listening on the wrong IP address Under Fedora, the default iptables configuration prevents incoming TCP connection of many types - including port 3260 Regarding Windows' built in rules - At least Win7 works with its built-in iSCSI initiator out-of-the-box share|improve this answer answered Feb 26 '11 at 9:33 Taichman 7961621 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote What target are you using?
