to the latest version of iOS using iTunes may have discovered an error message saying the following: "The iPhone Software Update Server Could Not Be Contacted. Make http://osxdaily.com/2014/09/26/itunes-iphone-software-update-server-not-contacted-error-fix/ sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." While sometimes this error message appears because of local networking issues, and you'll certainly want to be sure you're http://www.howardforums.com/printthread.php?t=1398580 connected to the internet, it's more often a sign that Apple iOS update servers are overwhelmed by requests. As the error message suggests, simply delaying to "try again later" typically resolves the problem and allows itunes error the iTunes based update to function as intended. This means you have four basic choices to get the iOS update to kick off, some of which still use iTunes to update the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and the other which uses the familiar OTA update mechanism. Quit & Relaunch iTunes, Then Try Again - quitting and relaunching iTunes to try again often works, you may want to try 1621 error iphone that first Wait a While - simply waiting it out and then trying again almost always works, this is recommended if you can be patient, as the issues resolve themselves when requests to Apple iOS update servers settle down Use OTA Update - the on-device delta update mechanism is available on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch through Settings > General > Software Update Use Firmware - pre-downloading the proper IPSW firmware file will get around the failed update server connection, then you can update manually with that firmware file. If you go this route, you can always find the latest IPSW firmware here, look for the appropriate version number and match it up to your device For most users, simply having patience or going with the OTA Software Update mechanism is preferable and very easy, though the latter is sometimes impossible to update due to storage constraints, and the iTunes approach becomes a necessity. phone does run a little laggy, which is ok. BUT...sometimes when I would download APPS from the Apps Store via the 3G network, my phone would just shut off automatically...I would then have to turn it back on and the app i was downloading was on the home screen but say "installing" I would then have to try and figure out how to try and download it again, sometimes taking the phone and "power cycling" it....VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Now, on Saturday night around midnight my phone did this and it WILL NOT turn back on!! I try and turn it on and the Apple logo comes on and it just stays like that...I try and reset it by pressing the Home key and the Sleep/Wake button simultaneously. Then turn it back on....it will not get past the Apple Logo... I then get home thinking maybe I have to plug it into iTunes to see if that will help....well i get an error message saying that itunes cannot access the iphones data....so now i am trying the restore option and HOPEFULLY this will help.... I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this as well or if i am the only one? Also, does anyone have any idea why this could possibly be happening or what is causing it? Thanks in advanced!! EDIT: so i tried the Restore option and downloaded the latest 2.0 software update and NOW it is telling me...."The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (1621). I guess I will be making a trip to either ATT tomorrow or Apple...which one should I go to?? Another EDIT: It seems that when I plug in the phone and hook it up to itunes, iTunes freezes and becomes unresponsive, but if i unplug the phone from the computer, Itunes works again!!! 07-13-2008, 03:15 AM bowlindude88 PLEASE someone help!!! 07-13-2008, 05:16 AM satinsixstring I would just take it in and get another - 14 day return policy 07-13-2008, 05:28 AM scaredpoet Before you take it back, try putting the iPhone in recovery (DFU) mode. 1. With the iPhone plugged in to the computer via USB, turn off the iPhone. 2. Hold down the Home button and the Power button. 3. When the Apple logo appears, release the power button but keep the home button pressed down. 4. Open iTunes, and it should come up saying the iPhone is in recovery mode and tell you the iPhone must be restored.
