So I got Jade Empire: Special Edition the other day, what can I say £8.99 for an awesome childhood memory? Damn right I bought it. Anyway so as I began playing it, setting up my character and spending a good 10-15 minutes or so looking up lore and talking with people. I eventually come to the mission where I need to go kick some bandit's butts out of Two Rivers. HOWEVERThis is where my problem comes into play. After collecting Dawn Star I turn to enter the main gate into town, and then I instantly get a message saying that my file has been deleted and that since I have no load files, I am pretty much stuck starting all over again. I tried saving the game beforehand, however this did nothing. It's almost as if the game itself was screwing me over by deleting my save file and forcing me to start all over again.I am pretty bummed about this actually and I'm praying that I didn't just flush £9 down the crapper because of a wierd bug. Is this an issue any one else is recieving? If so does anyone know what I can do to fix this? < > Showing 1-3 of 3 comments Nuee View Prof

I don't have access to a Vista computer, but if someone who reads this does, and can verify the steps in Vista, please let me know in a reply or PM so I can add it to the guide http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932971-jade-empire-special-edition/53751511 and thank you for helping. :)First problem:Jade Empire needs DirectX 9 to run, and it is incompatible with any later versions. Win7 ships with DirectX 10, and that's what causes the big error when you try to load the game. Thankfully the solution is simple. Before installing the game, click on the button on the installer that installs DirectX 9. After that has installed, install the game.Second problem:If you installed first DirectX9 and then the game, the game will now load and run, and run great. What it will not do however, is to save your progress. At all. Yes, I agree, this is a deal breaker. Fortunately the solution is simple. Right-click on the JE shortcut on your desktop, and pick Properties. Locate the Compatibility tab, click on it, and check the box to run the game in compatibility mode for "Windows XP Service Pack 3". Click Apply and Okay and all that, until all boxes are gone.Jade Empire should now run and save and load saves just fine on your Windows 7 system. Jade Empire problem Started by -Taylor Bane- , May 14 2009 03:53 PM Reply to this topic 2 replies to this topic #1 -Taylor Bane- -Taylor Bane- Guest Posted 14 May 2009 - 03:53 PM So not to go off topic or anything, but for some reason, all of a sudden i am getting an error message that has effectively rendered my previous save games moot, and any new games i might start. The error message comes up whenever i try to load another section of the map (take a quest, try to travel, etc) and it closes the game out and says something to the effect of; ERROR COULD NOT LOAD SAVE GAME. i have no idea why, but i tried uninstalling and reinstalling it three, (yeah, THREE) times, and the problem persists. If someone could help me out, ive been compiling some mods for use, and i havent gotten a chance to enjoy them because of this little snag. and FYI, the problem started before the mods, so that isnt it. Thanks loads guys! You might have more luck there. I experienced this error and quickly looked it up. It's a Vista thing AFAIK, and the easiest solution seems to be to run the actual exe as an Adminis
