I've got JCL code to apply a function on a DB2 database. The JCL code is as follows: ****** ***************************** Top of Data ****************************** ==MSG> -Warning- The UNDO command is not available until you change ==MSG> your edit profile using the command RECOVERY ON. 000001 //BILLING JOB MSGCLASS=H,NOTIFY=&SYSUID 000002 //****************************************************************** 000003 //* 000004 //* 000005 //* 000006 //* This job is used to run the BILLING program to produce the 000007 //* customer account billing report 000008 //* 000009 //* 000010 //* 000011 //****************************************************************** 000012 //BILLING EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01, 000013 // PARM='DSN SYSTEM(DB1S)' 000014 //STEPLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=DB2.V9R1.SDSNLOAD 000015 // DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ZOS.CONTEST2.PART2.LOAD 000016 //SYSTSIN DD * 000017 DSN SYSTEM (DB1S) 000018 RUN PROG (BILLING) - 000019 PLAN (BILLING) - JCL REFERENCE MANUAL ARE NOT CLEAR MSGIEF694I IEF694I z/OS MVS Subscribe You can track all active APARs for this component. APAR status Closed as documentation error. Error description Error Description: The manual, "OS/390 MVS http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1OW32295 JCL Reference" does not clearly describe how to concatenate data sets. There are 2 places in the manual in Chapter 12 where the same paragraph is used, in the DD section under the title, "Concatenating Data Sets," https://books.google.com/books?id=1hdvkuXoRVYC&pg=PA955&lpg=PA955&dq=jcl+error+694&source=bl&ots=t5H0vumCJB&sig=go8ofJBzu66Q9O7GZd3As2U67Ks&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi5tvyE99_PAhWQ2YMKHcgAD_IQ6AEIWjAJ and in the DDNAME Parameter section under the title, "Referenced DD Statement." The paragraph is stated as follows: ... If you make a forward reference to a concatenation (using the DDNAME parameter), the system obtains data only jcl error from the first data set defined in the sequence of DD statements. If the concatenated DDs are added to a procedure, the remaining concatenated data sets will be concatenated to the last DD in the last step named in an override or addition (or the first step if no step was named in an override or addition). Note that this may result in these concatenated DDs being added to an erroneous DD. ... jcl error codes Two examples are needed to explain this paragraph. Example 1: (working as user expects) //STEP1 EXEC PGM=IEBGENER //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSUT1 DD DDNAME=INPUT //INPUT DD DSN=TSTDATA1,DISP=SHR // DD DSN=TSTDATA2,DISP=SHR //SYSUT2 DD SYSOUT=* //SYSIN DD DUMMY . In this example, SYSUT1 will use the data set defined in the DDNAME forward reference INPUT. INPUT contains data set TSTDATA1 as well as concatenated data set TSTDATA2. This second data set, TSTDATA2, will be appended to SYSUT1. IEBGENER will recognize two datasets (TSTDATA1 and TSTDATA2) as input. . Example 2: (not working as user expects) //step1 EXEC PGM=IEBGENER //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSUT1 DD DDNAME=INPUT //SYSUT2 DD SYSOUT=* //INPUT DD DSN=TSTDATA1,DISP=SHR // DD DSN=TSTDATA2,DISP=SHR //SYSIN DD DUMMY . In this example, SYSUT1 will use only the first data set defined in INPUT, TSTDATA1. The next DD statement, SYSUT2, will then pick up TSTDATA2 as a concatenation because this DD statement is placed between SYSUT1 and its referenced DD statement, INPUT. Therefore, TSTDATA2 is not recognized as an INPUT data set.
