Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera i

Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended. Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a “click” as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on. i've found it on the net, here is the original text - if that won't help - go to the source page and read about the other options Was this answer helpful? The closeups, sunsets, and people shots http://www.e18error.com/posts/index.php?page=3 all looked wonderful. The image quality was great. The third day that I had it, I got a "lens error" and it stopped working. I looked through the manual and internet and couldn't find any solutions. I took it back to BestBuy, where they have a fourteen day return policy and got another one. lens error Same thing!!! I test shot about a half dozen photos and a few short video clips over the next four or five days and got great results. I was just as impressed as the first time. The next time i pulled the camera out, i got the same "lens error" message and an unusable camera. Back to BestBuy where their Geek Squad also deemed the camera unusable. lens error restart I turned down the option of another s95 and took a refund instead. I looked on the internet for "Canon s95 problems" and just came up with simple generic issues. When I tried again with a search for "Canon s95 lens error restart" I found quite a few people had this same problem. I was very frustrated as I really liked everything about the camera and it's quality images but that was completely meaningless if the camera either had a serious design or manufacturing flaw. I've returned to using my older Canon SD780 as I begin another search for a "pocket" camera. I cringe thinking about having the Canon s95 at a once in lifetime photo op and having it malfunction. Luckily for me, the camera broke down within a 14 day return period. Not only do I have a wider range o
out and had it fixed at my expense at a place in the US (I am from Canada) and so between that error and another repair this camera cost me $250 to fix. I got it back and after using it for maybe 30 pictures - guess what - the lenses is stuck again and I have the E18 error message. I will never, ever, purchase another Canon camera and I will suggest to anyone else planning on purchasing a Canon to look at another company. A camera costing this much should last for may years! EmailPosted September 27, 2010 11:53 amWilliamI tried hitting it on the usb side of the camera and now the focus went so far off. It worked once and got stuck again, I'm not sure that hitting these digital cameras is the best thing to do. I probably should have just had it repaired from the get go, now I'm not sure if that's possible or how much more it will be. Posted September 27, 2010 4:29 amChrisThanks to everyones help here I got through my e18 lens error problem with my camera. I posted a short while back about the lens error with mine. Tried everything and it made mine worse. Finally just sent it and had the camera properly serviced. I got it back fast and working perfectly again. The shop I used cleaned this sucker like new and they do something to the lens to reduce the risk of ever getting a lens error on the camera again. It ran me $79 for everything, I was completely impressed and my camera is covered completely now which is nice. The site I used was www.camerasandparts.com I'm certain there are many good shops out there and I would just say to get it fixed and be done. I have no regrets, the camera came back like new and the place I used was great to deal with. I hope everyone here has luck with theirs, I strongly believe there must be a defect in these digital cameras to hear of so many people that are going through this. I did try calling Canon first but to no avail. I say just get it fixed professionally and don't look back. My camera works like new again.
