Need help to fix "Lens error, restart camera" by firmware modification « on: 05 / June / 2010, nikon coolpix lens stuck 04:13:46 » Advertisements Hi,I have a camera get this fault and I'm trying to fix it by firmware modification. (I've try to fix the hardware but I cannot get success). As http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00aIOS I understand the CHDK will replace the origin firmware but it keep the self test sequence by copying that code and replayMy idea is finding the way to bypass the self test operation of camera lens and jump to the next sequence but it's difficult for me to find out where to bypass (modify the check by "NOP" for ex). With your https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5278.0 experience in canon reverse engine, could you give me some suggestions to do this task,Thanks in advance, Logged Print Pages: [1] Go Up « previous next » Related Topics Subject / Started by Replies Last post adding wires to power button for remote restart - seeking help (pics included) Started by mattkime General Discussion and Assistance 3 Replies 1227 Views by Microfunguy Restart camera, AF lamp control, remote off using script? when anything prevents the zoom lens from properly extending or retracting.[1] The error has become notorious in the Canon user community as it can completely disable the camera, requiring expensive repairs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E18_error ConsumerAffairs.com reports that the "lens has a feature called bellows claw, which is a gear that physically extends and retracts the lens. A piece that holds the lens, the barrier plate, is not large enough and https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/170418/My+camera+is+showing+%22lens+error-restart+camera%22,+how+do+I+fix+it can sometimes cause the bellows claw to malfunction, resulting in a stuck lens".[citation needed] The result is a black screen that only contains the error message, E18. Another problem mentioned on the site blames a sticky lens error iris in the lens, caused by grease entering inside from the microphones built into the lens. The buildup freezes up the ability of the lens to open. Although the use of the E18 error coding made this problem seem to be the particular domain of Canon cameras, the problem is actually quite common throughout all cameras with telescopic lens barrels. As a result, Canon has since dropped the use of this error code nikon coolpix lens in its newer cameras. In its place it has adopted the more common term "lens error" that other manufacturers use. As such, its newer cameras report this term when the problem occurs. Contents 1 Causes 2 Repairing the E18 error 3 Consumer response and class action 4 References 5 External links Causes[edit] According to Canon, one may get an E18 due to any of the following: Camera activating and lens opening while in a confined space or being blocked Extracted lens getting jarred Low battery condition as the unit is turned on or off Dropping of the camera Foreign substances, such as dust, sand or dirt entering into the camera body. General jarring of the camera "General camera malfunction" One major contributor to E18 lens errors is the improper use of camera cases, or the carrying of cameras in pockets. An inadvertent activation of the camera while in the case or pocket may cause the lens to extend with the lens restricted in its movement, causing the error. Another cause is that sand, dust, and dirt will accumulate in the bottom of the case if it is not cleaned regularly (and lint for pockets). These materials readily cling to the camera by electrostatic build-up from the camera rubbing against the side of the case, especially fo

My camera is giving me a "lens error/restart camera" message and the shutter seems to be a bit opened. How do I solve this problem? Answer this question I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? Yes No Voted Undo Score 8 Cancel Comments: I'm also experiencing this error message, however... • the camera turns on, • the lens extends outwards, • the lens contracts inwards, • the camera turns off... I did notice the superficial disfigurement that is on the outer shell of the lens, but this shouldn't cause this error as on occasions, the camera turns on, the lens extends outwards, and I can snap a few pictures, unless I aim the camera in any direction other than straight ahead - if not straight ahead, the lens contracts inwards & camera turns off. 12/10/2015 by Frae Guile Add a comment 0/1024 Cancel Post comment Are you sure you want to delete this zzzzzz? Normally this is a problem with the lens extension mechanism that is activated when the camera starts. This can normally be attributed to a dirty camera case or other grit getting into the camera mechanism. Other possible sources are physical jarring during operation or low battery during operation. The fist thing you should do is remove the existing batteries and the memory card from the camera, wait one minute and then put the ba
