log entry identifies a Lotus Notes document or design element by only a decimal id, NoteID or UNiversal ID (UNID). How can you identify which document or design element is being referred to? For example, when you are accessing a Notes database lotus notes 9 fix pack an error message similar to the following occurs and you want to identify which view it is referring to: "Error fixing view 290 in 07a.nsf: This view is obsolete and requires missing field list. Please edit and re-save the view." Answer First, you must determine if the id is a decimal value, NoteID or UNID. A UNID will contain 32 digits and will be in hexadecimal format. A NoteID will have 8 digits at most and will be in hexadecimal format. A decimal lotus notes 8.5.3 fix pack id will be in decimal format and will typically have a length of less than 8 digits. When a document or design element is identified by a decimal number, UNID or NoteID, and you have access to the NotesPeek tool, you can use the menu option Data > Open Note in NotesPeek to identify and locate it. The "Open Note" search can be set to search by NoteID or UNID, as well as by Hex or Decimal. If NotesPeek is not available and you are trying to search by a decimal value then the value must be converted to hexadecimal. Note: Information on obtaining NotesPeek is provided at the bottom of this technote. Using the Domino Administrator select the database in the Files tab, and then select Tools > Database > Find Note. If the note returned is a design element then the Document Properties window will indicate what type of design element it is. Check the Field Properties for a $Title field to determine the design element's name. In Notes 4.x releases the search can be performed using the following steps: From the Notes Client menu select File > Tools > Server Administration. Select the Database Tools (tab). In the dialog select the database, and for the Tool specify NoteID. Converting from Decimal to Hexadecimal Most operating systems will have a calculator utility which can be used to convert from decimal to hexadecimal. For example on Windows 1. Open the Calculator (Start > Programs > Accessorie
