would by default give you a pop up to pay for the license. The license is required to play the media file. You can either search google or another search engine for DRM removal tools. That's IF it's actually DRM instead of a fake file. My default action for files like this, would be an instant delete, and over-writing. If it's not DRM, then it's a file that's FAKE. Meaning, it will direct you to another site VIA pop up and you'll have to download some "codec" from their website, that MAY potentially contain malicious software, in other words an infected file. Reason 1, why I delete files like that. 07-03-2009 06:38 AMDeath_666 Feedback Now you tell me. Katie B March 14, 2014 Facebook Twitter Pinterest Stumbleupon Whatsapp Email Hi there, recently I've discovered the problem in Windows 7 on my TOSHIBA laptop. It won't let me play videos stored onto it, as it comes up with this message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Everything else such as pictures and music work perfectly, it's literally just the videos. I've only tried mp4 files, but I don't see how that would change as it's the codec that's missing. Films work fine, I have tested it. The actual Windows help page is no use whatsoever; it tells me I can download them from the Internet, but it doesn't tell me where. I've tested out a couple third party codec packs - I don't really trust them, but I had no choice - but still nothing. Has anyone got a solution to this?! This is really

Noatun opens and closes in a loop a video window displaying the message "Use Windows Media Player" when I tell it to open one of these files. I tried to follow the explanations there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...s+media+player I have the mediubuntu repository in my list. There is no such package as "w32" but there is one called "w32codecs" so I installed this one. It installed correctly but made no difference. There are also: mingw32 mingw32-binutils mingw32-runtime non-free-codecs Should I install one of these? "vlc media player" mentioned in the link above is not a valid command. the default media player in Windows operating system, Windows Media Player (abbreviated WMP), makes it easy to play audio, video and view images for Windows users. AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave, which is a multimedia container format created by Microsoft, that ordinarily, Windows Media Player has no problems opening and playing. However, many AVI files contain video streams that are encoded using codecs that Windows Media Player cannot normally interpret, like like Xvid, DivX, DX50, MP4V, – and when you attempt to playback such a file, you will likely just hear the audio stream.
