I've used msconfig to

boot up with MS only services running, nope same thing. Uninstalled, reinstalled. No change. Removed Lifecam and tried to test another webcam, this time a Logitech 9000... can't use that either, 'another application http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/microsoft-lifecam-vx-6000-initialization-error/43fe653a-1294-4e0a-9657-f3a5cc17dd9e is using the webcam' or words to that effect. So I can't use any webcams on this Windows 7 build. The same webcams work fine on a Vista Business x86 build on a different drive in the same computer. Is the Initalization error caused by the same problem the Logitech cam is reporting? Is there anyway to determine what may be using the cam and is it possible when https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/7d030de6-65e5-4742-9aa3-c178fb3862ac/lifecam-initalization-error?forum=w7itprohardware only MS services are selected (and all startups are deselected)? I'm totally stumped with this one. Open regedit2.Open thekey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}3. Make sure the value of UpperFilters contains ksthunk line. Add it if missing. In my case Kaspersky AntiVirus has overwritten this with itsDevice Controlfilter. As well when uninstalled it left extra empty lines in the UpperFilters values for other classes, so I had to go and manually remove them - otherwise some of the devices appeared with the yellow exclamation mark under Device Manager.Hope it helps Proposed as answer by mc505afm Sunday, January 24, 2010 11:30 PM Marked as answer by Vivian Xing Monday, January 25, 2010 7:26 AM Sunday, January 24, 2010 10:01 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi, Please first check if you have performed the steps on the following article: You receive an "Initialization error" or "There is no camera connected" error message, and the video preview is blank when you start the LifeCam software
