Also, the Form_BeforeUpdate shall be called when the user presses the close http://www.utteraccess.com/forum/caused-Runtime-error-211-t1936137.html button (top X button). The function checks the values entered into textboxes and comboboxes etc are valid. If they are deemed to be valid the data is written to to a number of tables using SQL statements INSERT/UPDATE depending on whether it is a new record or he/she is updating a previous record. However, as it reaches the first Insert statement the system gives me http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=142761 the following error message: "Run-Time error 2115" The macro or function set to the BeforeUpdate or ValidationRule property for the fields is preventing Microsoft Access from saving the data in the Field. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong as the SQL statement seems correct and the use of Form_BeforeUpdate seems to follow examples I have seen on the net. I have checked the net, but don't understand thier solutions. Any help would be much appreciated! Are you inserting to a SQL Server table (if so you need to make sure it has a primary key). Those are just a couple of things I would check. __________________ Free tools, code and samples here: To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. How to solve the "runtime error 2115" P: 1 thomashoyle https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e9baf227-59e0-4022-b008-04404cdfa7f3/access-2003-runtime-error-2115?forum=isvvba Hi, I have a database-form with a couple of text boxes in it. I want to replace the first letter that is written in a text box with an uppercase letter, so I use the "after update" event and have written the following code: Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers PrivateSubstraatenhuisnummer_AfterUpdate() dimanaamasstring anaam=Forms!medewerker!straatenhuisnummer.Text anaam=UCase(Left(anaam,1)) ms access Forms!medewerker!straatenhuisnummer.Text=anaam EndSub When the code is performed, I get the following error, which states "the macro or function set to the beforeupdate or validationrule property for this field is preventing Microsoft Access from saving the data in this field". Can anyone help me with this? thanks! That doesn't make much sense does it ;-) Try using BeforeUpdate instead : Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers PrivateSubstraatenhuisnummer_BeforeUpdate(CancelAs...) WithMe .straatenhuisnummer=Mixcase(.straatenhuisnummer) EndWith EndSub Also, please don't post code you've typed in directly in future. It wastes our time and isn't greatly appreciated. I assume that you have not added any code to the text box you have created so far!  Regards  ADG  Wednesday, April 16, 2008 1:12 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote  kkshum wrote: I am working with an existing MS Access 2003 database that I did not develop. I created a new form and am retrieving data from the database. When trying to save the data a textbox on the form, I am getting the following runtime error:  The macro or function set to the BeforeUpdate or ValidationRule property of this field is preventing BCP Planning from saving the data in the field.  Any help would be greatfully appreciated.   I am getting this error in Access 2007 on a database I developed. I am trying to create a form and keep getting this error. I checked the field in the database and there is no validation rule; there is no validation rule on the form either. There is no beforeUpdate prope
