Field Name In Ms Access
form/report Author(s) Dev Ashish (Q) Why do I get a #NAME error for
Ms Access Name Autocorrect
a calculated control on a form or a report? (A) You are probably using the same name for a calculated text box as one of the terms ms access name autocorrect save failures in the expression. In the following example, Access produces a #NAME error if you enter the expression in a control named City, State, or ZIP: =[City] & "", "" & [State] & "" "" & [ZIP] This creates a circular reference that may be resolved by changing the name of the control that contains this expression to something (anything) other than City, State, or ZIP. © 1998-2010, Dev Ashish & Arvin Meyer, All rights reserved. Error in MS Access Started by sunny441 , Jun 24 2010 07:48 PM Please log in to reply #1 sunny441 Posted 24 June 2010 - http://access.mvps.org/access/forms/frm0018.htm 07:48 PM sunny441 Member Member 258 posts Hello guys! Been a long time since I posted on here! I am working on a project using MS Access. As the topic says - I am having problems with retrieving data from a table and displaying. The one table has the component information like manufacture name, size and other things. The other table has some information pertaining to Temperature (mostly numbers here). On this 2nd table there are some fields that have no value and http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/280451-name-error-in-ms-access/ have been set to "---" by the previous db guy. All the fields are set to TEXT value. Now on the final front end - which displays information, the information from the first table shows up just fine. All the temperatures and info from the 2nd table show up as #NAME? Error. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I have the table sources set to the right values (like =[temp rear]). I also tried changing the field from TEXT to NUmber. But that did not help. The relationship is correct and the keys are correct. I am at my wits end! Please help!! If so, did the data display correctly until now or did something change that caused these issues? The #NAME error is letting us know (not always clearly), that something is either misspelled, has incorrect syntax or the reference is missing. I imagine you have already checked all the control sources, names, etc, since that is usually the first place to check.Best regards,dm 0 #3 Brother Bill Posted 24 June 2010 - 11:40 PM Brother Bill Member Member 31 posts Hello Sunny, This is my first post here, so I hope I'm not out of line.

I then created a http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?1663452-Name-error-on-unbound-text-box form and copied it 3 times (renaming the forms according to the table names). I changed the recource source in each form to reflect the corresponding table but now in some of the fields (in the copied forms) I am getting a #Name? message in a couple of the fields. Any help would be great... thanks :) Jul 26 '07 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 4 ms access Replies Expert Mod 10K+ P: 12,110 Rabbit It probably means your field names from your record source don't match up with the control source property of the controls on the form. Jul 26 '07 #2 reply P: 3 jkriner ok, I just copied the original form (ie. table09 goes with form09 and then I copied form09 3 times and renamed them form10, form 11, form12...there is data in each of the tables (table 9, table10, table11, table12) that shows up in the corresponding in ms access forms, but how do I get the fields to match up? I am somewhat clueless (as you can tell) when creating anything in access and that is why I copied the form three times so I wouldn't have to redesign it each time) thanks so much Jul 26 '07 #3 reply Expert 100+ P: 1,206 JKing First I suggest checking the record source for each form. Open up the form properties and make sure you have the right table set for each form. For example Form9 should be set as table9, form10 set as table10. Once this is done open the properties for any textboxes that are giving you a #name error. There is drop down for the control source property. Select the proper field name from the list. This should get rid of any errors you have. Jul 26 '07 #4 reply Expert Mod 10K+ P: 12,110 Rabbit If the tables have different field names, then the controls on the form that reference those field names will be wrong because they're using the field names from the original form. You have to change the control source property of the control to reflect the field names in the table. I've tried searching through the forum in order to find what I'm looking for and wasn't able to so I'm asking the community for help. I have an unbound textbox in frmMain where I would like it to load a ranking total from qryRanking. So far I've tried these two things: 1) changing control source of the txtbox to = [Query_Ranking]![Ranking] 2) loading a subform and doing =[Forms]![frmRanking]![Ranking] I receive a #Name? error for both. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Cheers.
