Since then, it loads DOS but whenever http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000382.htm I try to get into Windows (safe mode included) or run any other program (Scandisk etc.) I get the following message: THIS SESSION HAS BEEN HALTED DUE TO AN INTERNAL STACK OVERFLOW. CHECK THE STACKS SETTING IN THE CONFIG.SYS FILE AND START AGAIN. To start with there was no STACKS setting so I tried all the defaults (9,256 64,512 0,0 etc.) but it still didn't work. In fact, with 0,0 the entire system just halted - no error message or anything. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?68393-RESOLVED-Internal-Stack-Overflow ALso added FILES=60 BUFFERS=40 as one of the support.microsoft.com help files told me to. HELP! Thanks, (c) Happy Jack Reply With Quote December 22nd, 1999,02:08 AM #2 leeo View Profile View Forum Posts Virtual Intern Join Date Mar 1999 Location Arlington, SD, USA Posts 135 Did you try using the STACKS parameter in your CONFIG.SYS? You don't say much about your system. If you have DOS 6X type HELP, and check on entering STACKS to your CONFIG.SYS, using EDIT. This should help resolve your trouble.Good luck. Look (in safe mode) under Control|Devices at the properties of the sound card, modem, COM and Lpt ports under the Manually button of the Resources tab. There you find and eventually change the Hardware interrupts. Ask advice before changing, if you're not sure what you do! Just write down the devices that have same IRQ and/or DMA. Unfortunately, I have tried changing the STACKS setting many times and failed each time. Also, the PC will not boot up in Safe Mode either so I can't check for an IRQ conflict. DOH! Staff Member Joined: Aug 23, 2002 Messages: 14,146 Location: Northeastern USA I have an MS-DOS game named "Star Wars: TIE Fighter". I am only able to play it once http://forum.pcmech.com/threads/stack-overflow-error-starting-ms-dos-prog.42818/ in about 30 tries because of a "Stack Overflow!" error. I'm guessing this has to do with the amount or RAM available to play the game. I'm running win 98SE and have 96MB of RAM, which I think should be able to run it. I appreciate any help. I'm more curious as to why this is occuring than actually being able to use the game. What sound card do you have? Nuclear Krusader, Sep 4, 2002 #4 Force Flow Barefoot on the Moon! Staff Member Joined: Aug 23, 2002 Messages: 14,146 Location: Northeastern USA I get the same problem in DOS. My sound card it Sound Blaster Pro compatible. When the game loads, sound is no problem. I tried reinstalling it and now it works a little better. Not as many "Stack Overflow!" errors. So, do you know what's the problem?
