I'm trying to compare two dates for a custom ms project formulas examples field and it looks likethe ProjDateDiff function should do what I want if I can figure out how to use it correctly. The Help is not being very helpful. ProjDateDiff Returns projdatesub the duration between two dates in minutes. Syntax ProjDateDiff( date1, date2, calendar ) date1 Required; Variant. The date used as the beginning of the duration. date2 Required; Variant. The date used as the end of the duration. calendar Optional; String. The calendar to use when calculating the duration. If calendar is not specified, the default for the current resource is the resource calendar,

or for the current task, the task calendar (or the standard calendar if there is no task calendar For Project Server, the standard calendar will be used, regardless of which calendar is specified in the calendar string. When you use this function in a formula created in Project Web App and compare it with the same formula created in Project Professional, you should test to ensure the results are what you expect. -------------------- Question -- when I'm creating the custom field, what kind doesthis function require? Date? Number? I've tried both, but am only getting a #ERROR as the result. I'm thinking it should be a number field, andI entered the following as the formula: ProjDateDiff([Finish],[Start]) I did select the field names from the list of date fields presented, so there shouldn't be any typos to confuse things. Unique ID is not a date field. DateDiff("d",[Finish],[Start]) should work. In a custom field you can not reference any of the values of http://www.office-forums.com/threads/using-datediff-or-projdatediff.417745/ other tasks. They work on a line by line basis and the fields are always those of the task line. The only exception are some project level fields like Project Start, Current date etc. -Jack Dahlgren "Outlaw33" <> wrote in message news:... > > I am attempting to come up with a formula that will show me in days, the > difference b/w a finish date and a Start date on a different line.
