SQL Server > SQL Server Database Engine Question 0 Sign in to vote I have this error in my SQL logs today and I can't find the problem. Right after this error appeared, my database ended up being corrupted. I looked online and saw several articles referring to possible disk hardware failure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are running SQL 2000.Nick Thursday, May 14, 2009 6:58 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Nick,>>database ended up being corruptedDid you run the checkdb to find out what errors it threw? The box is Windows 2000 Advanced Server with 2GB RAM. SQL Server 2000 has SP 4.I'm getting the following error:-"Error: 17803, Severity: 20, State: 122006-06-02 18:20:30.13 spid53 Insufficient memory available.."I read several forums and learnt that adding /3GB switch in boot.ini file http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=67199 will make SQL Server recognize more than 2GB.But, since the box has only 2GB, does it may not make sense to add /3GB switch. Correct if I'm wrong.what else would be the solution?the worst part is sql server halts execution after this error, while some operations are still pending.2.I have another box which has the same settings (infact less RAM, ~1.5 GB RAM). this box performs exactly same operations as the above one, but finishes gracefully without givig me any error. Any clue why the above one errors out and not this one?Appreciate your help on these.ThanksJai eyechart Flowing Fount of Yak Knowledge USA 3575 Posts Posted-06/03/2006: 23:49:43 I think you need to install the post SP4 hotfix rollup.here is the hotfix rollup package http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=916287If you read that article you will see that any post Sp3 hotfix that is version 8.0.1000 or greater was not included in SP4. This article describes your error exactly, and it is build 8.0.1001 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891719try installing the hotfix rollup and see if that takes care of your error.-ec Jaikanth_n Starting Member 4 Posts Posted-06/04/2006: 15:18:57 interseting & useful. let me try this and get bac

Luis Martin, Sep 29, 2009 #3 sramesh New Member Please find memory setting for SQL 2000 enterprise edition. max server memory (MB) 4 2147483647 6144 6144 min memory per query (KB) 512 2147483647 1024 1024 min server memory (MB) 0 2147483647 0 0 sramesh, Sep 29, 2009 #4 Luis Martin Moderator Well that is the problem. SQL only can reach 2gb of main memory. So you have to work with /3gb to get more memory because with 32 bits sql can reach up to 4GB. My recommendation is to move OS and SQL to 64 bits. Luis Martin, Sep 29, 2009 #5 sramesh New Member one month before i haved added /3GB and immediately we have found disconnection issues in application. Also we have faced perfomrnace issues in windows. We cant open task bar...... it is hung state.... what is -g in startup parameter? it will resolve issues? sramesh, Sep 30, 2009 #6 moh_hassan20 New Member if you faced such errors: "Failed Virtual Allocate Bytes: FAIL_VIRTUAL_RESERVE
