Yesterday at about 2pm we started getting the following errors: On our Clearcase VOB server/registry server: /var/adm/messages Jan 30 14:00:05 server mvfs: http://ID 656060 kern.notice mvfs: ERROR: view=+user_view+ vob=/vobs/proj/+VOB+ - Database timed out /var/adm/atria/log/mvfs_log 479fe838 mvfs: Error: view=+user_view+ vob=/vobs/proj/+VOB+ - Database timed out 479fe838 mvfs: Error: see view log on host view_srv for more info On the view_srv: /var/adm/atria/log/ 2008-01-30T14:01:02+11 view_server(6183): Warning: Unable to open vob '+server:/path/VOB/VOB.vbs+': database timed out 2008-01-30T14:01:12+11 view_server(19386): Error: Unknown host '+server+': Non-authoritative host not found 2008-01-30T14:01:12+11 view_server(19386): Error: cannot contact albd 2008-01-30T14:01:12+11 view_server(19386): Error: Unexpected error in VOB "server:/path/VOB/VOB.vbs" op vob_ob_register_replica (1ca02bbb.470f11dc.8100.00:01:80:f0:28:dc):database timed out See vobrpc_server_log on host server Once again on the server: /var/adm/atria/log/vobrpc_server_log Is there any reason as to why this would have happened? And what I can do to prevent from happening in the future? A "Database timed out -- aborting transaction" usually is followed on the logs by the actual root cause (like, for instance, db_VISTA database error -926 - problem in shared memory lock manager) In the OP's case, it was (from this technote), a corrupt transaction file. Unmount the VOB Kill any lingering VOB processes on the server using the albd_list utility. Note: Review technote 1148639 for more details on albd_list and its usage. Should some ClearCase processes still exist that are accessing the transaction file
